I prefer balmora, nice buildings and good transportations from and to, and indeed one of the manor's is a very nice choice.

I prefer my Raven Rock condo. Don't ask me why; it's far, not easy to get to and real cold. I just really like it. It always has a nice fire going when I get home.

I downloaded the 'Good Cottage' mod. The location is perfect: a close jog/fly/almsivi intervention to Balmora just down from the silt strider platform.

* plenty of storage for my purposes
*comes with a grandmaster's alchemy set and ingredient supply chest if you want to play with potions

I've just been piling up my junk in the bunk-bed area in the Balmora Mage Guild. Easy to teleport to there using the guild guides. Plus I have a ton of stuff waiting to be sold lying in front of the Creeper. (I wonder why he or the Orcs don't just steal it?) ;)
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Currently using the tomb under Nedalas' home in Caldera. I love the location and my respawning skeleton champion. I use the furniture mod to put some tables and bookcases in it. Have my alchemy gear there to. Very convienient - just out the door from Creeper and can travel via master propylon index or guild guide to other places quickly. Next time I think I'll use the third floor of Shank's Shovel in Caldera - Shank has a very nice and very large bedroom.

Also I like the Council Club in Balmora after I wipe out the Commona Tong group and the innkeeper. Two bedrooms with chests, a storage closet with crates, lots of storage baskets/jars, tables, and its a great location. I loot the place, sell all the junk and set up alchemy gear on the bar or tables.

I've often just made the floor above Creeper my "home" as well. The only places I don't like are any of the strongholds. IMO they are totally worthless with terrible locations and lots of useless people/robots in your way.

Did you know you can sleep in any of the jail cells throughout the game? Comes in handy. Just open and enter a cell and click on the mattress to sleep.

Shenks' is nice, though if I'd settle there I'd be sure to wipe it out completely. However I just got a residence in Raven Rock. If you have the bloodmoon expension it is also something nice to work for (though it is for morrowind maybe not the most ideal location but it is connected to the boating system.)
The red lights in the council club are also cool and with all the indoor vegitation.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right place? There's nothing to wipe out in Shenk's Shovel. Just Shenk and an Imperial on the first floor, an Argonian on the second and nothing on the third floor except empty rooms.

Well Shenk would make a nice start, then perhaps that guy at the bar and perhaps after that that cat creature on the 1st floor......

The cat creature (I mistakenly said he was Argonian) and the Imperial are both decent trainers. I can't see killing them just so I can use the first floor of the inn. Nedalus' house would be easier and better, even if you don't want to use the crypt part of it.

Ok, but I'm lvl 100 on almost everything so I don;t really require any more training.
However I don't like 'strangers' in my house :D

So should shenk's be my place I'd be sure to clean it out.

Have any of you ever considered Hlormaren or Andasreth? Ship services near, sliders (by Almsivi intervention) too, propylon right here, plenty of space and storage ...

I wandered about Hlormaren a bit , but I was attacked by everyone there (I wasn't diseased or vampirised or anything, and my personality is quite high). Since I was concerned that a slew of bodies in my wake might affect my game I reloaded.....

btw, Hi Loredweller,
I'm certain I remember you from the Shadows of Amn forum a couple of years ago :)
