I've just started playing IWd2 and i have some questions about party building. Wiz or sorc? there are few scrolls but which would be most usefull. Bard or rogue? Bards are very useful with song but i need some rogue skills. As of now here is my party:
human cleric
drow ranger/fighter
dwarf fighter/barbarian
bard or rogue
human fighter/wizard
socerer or wizard
can someone help me out?
Advice
Id say choose the wizard as its better for begginers though with the low amount of scrolls you may get more spells as a sorc(i have a lvl 13 wizard capable of casting lvl 7 spells yet the highest level spells i have found are at lvl 4 without fireball she would be way behind my druid and cleric in kills and power).
I also think you should reconsider your fighter/ranger build as rangers suk keeping them at close levels leveling up both fighter and ranger constantly will waste levels. And leaving ranger at1/FighterX will incur an XP penalty for drow as neitha are favoured classes. I dont even see why you want ranger as a fighter normally wears heavy armor and as such will not gain the ambidexterity of the ranger(the only reason to choose ranger) and just put you fighters dex to 15/16 and choose ambidexterity and two weapon fighting as feats you will get more than enough feats.
Also you should make your human cleric a Aasimar cleric (for the attribute bonuses they get +2 char and +2 wis no minus atrributes so you gain 4 extra attributes aat generation even if you dont want the in those stats you can take them out and put them elsewhere) unless you are a cleric of lathendar.
Bard verse Rogue if you go for a wizard then get rid of the rogue and put in the bard. Rogues arent as useful as they use to be as they cant steal from shops and your bard or even your wizard(with the tons of skill points from int) can make up for your thief skill. Though you may want to dual class you bard to a few thief levels for the evasion ability. Also Bards are great speakers due to their high Char and without a sorc you need this especially since you dont have any other char based characters. Rogues are pretty much useless in battles though Bards will help with spells so i think their better though i chose a rogue out of habit.
BTW try to have one character with a level of paladin, paladins always get a holy avenger(or sumthing like it) which is normally the best sword in the game i havnt gotten it yet but i know it exists.

Actually, I've found sorcerers to be a real delight at playing. Your spell selection is limited, but only in the sense that you can't have every spell that exists. But you can PICK from every spell that exists. AND you can cast those spells more times than a wizard. So I just make sure I pick spells that are always useful, or that will grow in power as I grow in level (ie. skull trap...a great offensive spell, chain lightning, sunfire, etc.) My sorc kicks my wizard's ass!
I'd have to agree that rangers kinda suck. Don't get me wrong...I love to roleplay a ranger, but in terms of power, fighters and barbarians are superior. Better hitpoints, better armor, better weapons specialization (fighters). No offense to ranger lovers but their skills are really not that helpful. Nothing dishes out damage like a dual wielding fighter who has mastered both weapons.
I have a paladin in my group, but only because I want the holy avenger =). The sword does exist later in the game. I have the normal level sword and it is pretty sweet, but the version in Heart of Fury mode....yowsers!
