Something rotten in Norway

Post by Janarehansen »

Hi, hope somebody here can help me out.
Just bought Neverwinter Nights (Best of Atari version), installed it and.......trouble. The game stutters and is unplayable. The game runs, well sort of, but is so, so slow.

The prelude video is ok, but when the opening menu comes it grinds to a near halt. Choosing options here takes 10 seconds from click to response. And the second video doesnt run at all.

Whats wrong?

My computer isnt state of the art, but should be well within the requirements.
- Compaq
- Runs on Windows 98 se
- Pentium 3
- Hardisc 10 gb (lots of gig left)
- 320 mb ram
- S3 inc savage4 pro card

The game said something about getting new drivers and OpenGl and videocards.....

Try the website of the manufactor of your graphics card.

It is a rather old card it seems, so it might be difficult finding them.

Otherwise try doing a search on google for drivers with the excat name of your card.

also try to minimize all settings, maybe it can help run the game a little more fluid.

The specs you listed are close to the game minimum. In particular - your video card is your weakest link. Go to the video manafacturers web site and download the newest drivers.

Even with a good driver set you are going to need to run the game with minimum graphical options enabled.

Good luck

I have the same problem. Iwas going to reload the entire game, but because I was already into it I didn't want to lose it.
My sister-in-law plays and the game is superfast and seems fun.
Mine takes forever to even get a reply during a simple conversation. For now I have no answer just the same problem.

I have the same problem and guessed it was my processor, which is very old (AMD K6 3d) but I recently found out that it is more likley my video card then processor, and your posts about youy system specs make me further disregard the processor and belive more that its the video card mine was only 4 MB even though it had OpenGL support and the most recent drivers (although I got a chance to play the demo on a much more advanced computer :) )
