The very few you are!

If anyone here needs help with firearms, im here for you. ive been studying guns for some time now and im especially strong with the kalshnikov family (the guns, not the members) I know the AK like the back of my hand, i know every working part. So if you have any questions about your little package of fire power that you so riteously own please post here. (rather than go to some obscure gun forum!)

sorry to brag, but sometimes, when youve worked hard learning so much, you have to put such knowledge to use! does anyone blame me?

Hehe, the AK holds the distinction of being the workhorse of assault rifles...neither rain, nor grime, nor excessive carbon buildup stops it from firing.

The M-16, however, locks up if you don't clean it 6 times a day.

Thats why i dont buy any ar-15s! i keep to romanian AKMs. its true, they never jam(unless you pour mud in the chamber) i havent cleaned my gas tube for a year! try doing that on an m-16/ ar-15!

Ah, this is where I lose the logic of the US military during the Vietnam era. They had an excellent assault rifle in the M-14...and just about every soldier who had their M-14 replaced with an M-16 complained loudly about it. My father was one.

To this day I keep my ears open for an M-14 being sold...I would love to get my hands on one. Alas, no luck.

M-14s are easy to aquire, but can be a little pricey! from what i heard a few soldiers dropped their M-16A1s for the type 56 chinese AK the viet cong carried.

I would try doing a google search for M-14s for sale on the internet, or you could go to your local gun dealer and ask around(if you have one) by the way, the .308 ammunition it takes is at an ok price.

Heh, I was issued an A1 in basic training back in 1989. I wonder if they still use them...

LOL, I was also issued a steel pot...didn't get a Kevlar until I arrived at my first duty assignment.

Yep, that was the weapon for the clime to be sure. I would have done the same myself. I do have a Chinese-made SKS here that my father has been keeping for me...cheap as dirt, but it works.

I'm partial to carbines for a variety of reasons, but chiefly because of versatility. Assault rifles seem to fit nicely into the niche carbines played in the earlier wars, compromising between the long-range accuracy of a true rifle and the smaller size and easier handling of a carbine. Unfortunately I was the M-60 gunner in every squad I was in during my time in the Army (bad luck I suppose), and would rather have been left to fate with an M-16 than that clunky, ancient and tempermental beast. Hell, for that matter, I would have preferred to man a .50 caliber machine gun than the M-60. Clunkier for sure, but definitely makes you feel more secure, with rounds nearly as long as your forearm.

I dont know, id rather carry an m-60 around than an 82-pound 'ma deuce" browning M2. at least the m-60 has a bipod and is more portable. im thinking about buying a yugo m56/66 (yugoslavian SKS) they are cheap and are capable of firing rifle grenades. But im concentrating on aquiring an sar-2 romanian ak-74 at the moment. its a beauty! i just recently ordered a stunt uzi that fires blanks and non-lethal bullets just for fun. it should be coming in for my birthday. oh, how i love guns. who would have thought that 2 years of study can produce infinite knowledge!(well...almost)

by the way, from what i know they still use m-16A1s but the m-60 has been replaced by the minimi m-249

Hmmm...sorry, yours truly will take the M-2 any day over just about anything else.

It has a tripod as well...sure, you have to dig in on the ground (as in brace your feet against the tripod while your rear end is planted firmly on mother earth) in order to fire it more than once, but there is something awfully mystical about it. Firing it is something akin to a religious experience.

Mounted on a HUMMV, you can't go wrong.

Yuck. That M-60 is prone to jam if the ammunition belt is not held just right as it snakes out of the ammo can. There's also that little tidbit about "operator headspace and timing"....

Glad to hear it is being replaced.

My interest in firearms really didn't begin until I spent time in the military. Prior to that, I had no exposure to them. Right now, black powder interests me. In particular, I am thinking about the percussion pistols of the 19th century.

That's like saying Harley Davidsons are attractive to (mostly) men with beerguts. Trust me, this is NOT an American phenomenon. It's as typical all over the world as chocolate is like heroin to women.

I'm with Rob-hin. I would not know where to start looking should I want to acquire a gun (since they are illegal here unless specifically licensed, and that is limiting) and even if I could get one, I probably wouldn't know which way round to hold it anyway!

I don't care that I'm ignorant, I would rather live in a country with no gun culture anyday

I second that!

If you believe it or not, guns are nowhere as popular as in the USA. Everyone can get one without to much trouble. The law makes it way to easy, in Europe (The Netherlands, where I live) guns are nor really popular and much harder to come by.

I suppose it has something to do with a feeling of power or something. But I still don't grasp it.

NO GUN HATERS on my thread! If you are just starting out and have questions about guns you are to post here, thats what this thread is for, not people who are indifferent or hate guns! sorry to be an a**hole about this, but we americans love our guns.
