Post by Apprentice »

I was thinking of soloing HotU, i was thinking maybe a 20-Bard/7-Weapon Master/13-RDD with a rapier. would you think this is a good idea? any help and suggestions would be helpful with this.

Well first of all, you won't get to level 40 at the end of HotU, you get to about level 28 (completing most sidequests) if I recall correctly.

As for your character I would recommend against taking the three extra RDD levels as they don't add much to your character. You may as well take an extra three bard levels for the epic bonus feat.

I think the RDD is a very valid multiclass for a bard - especially a more meele orientated bard. (And I don't even like RDD class :D )
Although - I don't know why you wish to take the bard to level 20? I'd proberly stop somewhat sooner myself, but I'm not that accustomed to playing a bard in this game.

( Soloing a multiplayer game ... kinda defeats the point :D )

EDIT: And sorry - can't post while I'm at work. Working on a crappy dell laptop that crashs everytime I try to install the NIC :)

Xandax makes a valid point that after level 16 bard neither curse nor normal song increaces much in terms of effectiveness (though two level 40 bards both singing curse songs are fun :D ) and taking bard to 20 will only give two extra spells per day. However incresing levels in RDD or WM aren't very appealing either. Assuming that you are going the devastating critical route, your songs (and drige which is often underestimated) are crucial as it decreases saves and AC. Extra bard levels will also improve some of your spells (Bull's Strength is 1 hour/ level and Wounding Whispers' damage is level based). Bard is also an excellent class for maximising tumble.

Say you were to take an extra 4 RDD levels (Bard 16/RDD 17/WM 7), all you would gain is +2d10 damage & +1DC to breath weapon and a little more health.

Compare that to Bard 23/RDD10/WM7. You can cast more spells (and as said above, they are more powerful). Your bard song gives an extra +10HP and +4 to skill rolls. Your curse song will will do an extra 14 damage (which is greater then the average damage from +2d10 and cannot be resisted) and -7 to skill rolls. And don't forget the extra feat. And forget not Lasting Inspiration which requires Perform 25)

Taking an extra 7 levels of WM (Bard 16/RDD 10/WM 14) will give an extra +7 to hit (faster increase of BAB and Epic Weapon Focus). It will have slightly worse saves then bard though.

Really it upto you as to what you pick.

thx guys :D i was going to leave WM at lvl 7 as you only get attack increases and by that lvl you got all your extra ablities, i dont see much point in huge RDD lvls as its only HP that you really get thats ussful. thank for all your advice, its benn iber helpful :)

I'm not a big 'gamer', but within the last couple years, started playing Morrowind and NWN. I am always amazed by those of you that have the stats mapped out for different levels of different classes with all the feats, spells, hp, etc. From those of us that enjoy reading (and benefit from) the information you provide us, Thanks!
