Tanner's Armor and the death of Adalon

Post by JJComo »

I'm trying to aquire this Armor. I've played through before, but this time I need silver dragon blood in order to finish the armor. Unfortunately there is only one silver dragon in the game and that of course is Adalon. I'm not sure she would give me a decent amount willingly. My party is evil and just killing her would be extremely difficult and fun. What do you think? Can a Mage named Haplo, with his sidekicks Korgan Bloodaxe, Minsc and let's not forget Boo, the always entertaining Jan Jansen, the sexy and dark Viconia, and Haer'dalis the best pick pocket in the game. I swear he rarely gets caught. Anyone out there have any thoughts on strategies of attack, spells that are useful, and best of all has she any weaknesses?

I normally use abi dalzim's horrid wilting, dragons hate that, although sometimes they resist it. Just run up and attack him with korgan and Minsc, casting all the offencive spells you can. Not forgetting, of course, to cast protections on your party, remove fear is important. It might take a few tries but she'll die eventually. Good luck.

Lower resistance and magic missle always worked for me
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

I can mistake, but I remember that killing Adalon (like Dridtz) can cause some bad reaction on good aligned NPC, in that case Minsc could leave the party.
Check that.

What they said man, Lower Resistance, a greater malison might help. And then then abi dalzim's horrid wilting... maybe if you have time finger of death, or hold since Malison might let you get away with it.

btw, if your party's supposed to be evil... why do you have Minsc? That goody-two-shoes will leave if your reputation drops to 0 methinks.

Get Jan to Hide in Shadows and Minsc and Korgan up front. get Viconia to cast Defensive hrmony and your mage Magic Missle and Summon Monster on Adalon. Jan backstabs for loads of Damage and Haer'Daelis does his special attack. The rest, is history.

Ehh.. a small flaw in your strategy:
Dragons are immune to backstab ;)

Surely most dragons, if not all dragons, are immune to backstab.

Jan: Backstab failed

or is this just ToB? I think they should be immune - tailstab?

I'm sorry but i'm going to have to side with Numinor on this one. He's right, all dragons, The shadow one, Firekragg (or however the hell it's spelled), Adalon and the black one at the end of the game are all immune to backstabb.

Are you playing with any mods that might have added that back in?

***possible spoiler***

In respect to killing Adalon, I usually find it useful to go along with her plans, right up to having her transport you to the underdark exit. This will let you go through all the quests and their experience rewards. Then, as she is in bipedal form killing the drow guards at the exit, sneak attack her. It will take her a bit of time before she turns on you so you should be able to get a round or two of attacks/spells off without opposition. As others have mentioned before, lower resistances work well, and then just use your spells of choice.
If I remember correctly, killing Adalon is a 5 (possibly 7?) point hit on your reputation. So unless it's already very low you shouldn't have too many party conflicts. Minsc won't leave just for the act of killing Adalon, though probably will if your reputation falls to 0.

Fable.
I have BG2 with ToB and Darkest Day installed.
Another point. In AD&D 2nd Edition (which I have and the set of rules BG1 & 2 goes by) you are aloowed to Backstab Dragons. In one good game my 20th Level Theif inflicted a nasty hit of 68HP damage on Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon.

Ok, here's the proof you can't backstab dragons :
Image

For those of you who don't understand German ;) , the text says:

Ilmaris- Der hinterhältige Angriff ist offenbar gescheitert
=
Ilmaris- The backstab obviously failed (more or less, I'm not that good at translating :) )

Numinor,

I am sure that you are right in what you are saying but just wanted to point out that your screenshot in and of itself doesn't prove that dragons are *immune* to backstab.

It is normal for a thief's backstab to sometimes fail. Heck, Yoshimo managed to go all the way up to level 22 in my game before the asylum (Watcher's Keep is full of *TONS*of experience) but his backstabs still usually failed (when they succeeded they gave a good amount of damage though).

Yes, backstabs can fail when you miss the target, but then no message appears.
The message "Der hinterhältige Angriff ist offenbar gescheitert" (or whatever that is in English) only appears if the creature is immune to backstabs. At least it is that way in the German version, and I can't imagine it works different in other language versions.
