The cowardly Hlaalu guard

Post by BaronFel »

I was wandering around Balmora today with my Theif/Archer character, and I decided that I wanted blood. :D So I took out my bow and shot a Hlaalu guard. He gave me the usual "You will pay, with your blood!" Warcry and charged at me, sword in hand. Then, as I was about to fire again, he suddenly said in a very cowardly sort of voice "Let me live!", turned around, ran into the river, and swam away. :D :D :D Has anyone else ran into this? I think its hilarious.

I never had that and I killed many guards with my previous character. Are you sure you hadn't eaten/smoked any weird green stuff?

Most probably you were in sneak mode or chameleoned. It has weird effects sometimes if the opponent cannot clearly see you even if you aren't completely invisible for him.

Nope, I've been drug free for a week now. ;)

And I'm certain I wasn't in sneak mode or chameleoned. Very... odd.

It happened to me a few times too. Not just with guards, but with different types of opponents as well. Maybe it's because your strength is maxed out and you hit them so hard they freak, or maybe it's because their hp's got too low, too fast. I don't know.

It can happen. I've had Ordinators say "Have mercy Nerevar" before. But that was only after I'd completed the main quest AND killed Vivec (I was about level 70 at the time)

You are lvl 4 and you attacked a guard? I dunno but in the version I played when I was lvl 4 a guard would run faster than you and be able to kill you in 1 or 2 blows......

If you want a real hot challange involving the killing of guards, get yourself fully prepared, and at Level 60 or so (you'll have to be), and then head into Almalexia's supid hover chamber. Throw a punch and cast Almsivi intervention. THEN go back in. If you say inside you'll be surrounded and killed instantly hence no challange. but try to kill everyone in the room one by one, there are about 8 'Her Hands' blokes in there, and Almalexia herself. One hell of a tough fight. I've never managed it without Aroyns Helper and a hell of a lot of Golden Saints.

As usually - use skill or see teacher. If you choose practice just remember that the number of hits is what really counts, so take the bow what won't kill the target instantly. Learn levitation to avoid being hit and area without cliff racers. Another method is sneaking and chameleoning, best works in closed spaces (such as tombs). If you haven't noticed yourself i may say that the population of tombs are going to respawn (with variations and in corellation with your current level) on re-enter if you've removed the corpses before exitting.

Spoilerish:

That happened to me when I was fighting Dagoth Ur! I was ready for the fight of my life (it's my first run through the game), I hit him a couple of times and he fell in the lava! He didn't die, but talk about anti-climaxes!

I was once duking it out with this guy, and he all of a sudden took off, ran across the room, ran into the wall, and fell down and died... I was confused, but I almost died laughing.

Once I was attacking some lady and she killed 3 slaves that I just set free then ran into a wall and died. I was kinda confused, but I laughed for an extremely long time. Has that happened to anyone else, someone killing their own slaves and then commiting suicide.
