The baby's name is Quayle. Yes, the same name with the gnome who had cared Aerie in the circuit. If you want to see Aerie borning the baby you shall complete the final challenge then Aerie would talk about wedding. After this dialogue all you have to do is taking real time, watching TV, sleeping, reading a novel...etc.

It's depending on real time so...it was funny that one time after defeating Melissan and I had watched the end movies the screenshot returned to the Throne of Baal and Aerie borned her baby.

Unluckily you can't choose the name of the baby. What a pity.
I'll try to attach an image of the baby, although I'm afraid it's in Spanish...

The baby looks suspiciously like the werewolf baby in BG:TotSC (on Werewolf Island). Has Aerie been seeing someone (something?) behind your back? :)

I've checked the BIF files for the game, and within the '25items.BIF' archive is a file called 'aeriebab.itm'. Sure enough, it's the baby everyone's been talking about.

Maybe Aerie's genes aren't dominant over those of <<character name>> ? Maybe it takes two winged elves to produce a wee winged elf?

I wonder if the game developers ever thought of genetic questions like this.... :D

Indeed, the wing development genes of Avariels are recessive, hence you need two copies to develop wings (one from each parent). If Aerie's half-avariel offspring were to marry a full-blood Avariel, then Aerie's grandkids would have a 50% chance of being winged. This is reduced to just 25% if the child marries another half-Avariel.

Things get more complex if a half-Avariel marries dragonkin, or a tiefling with Tana'ari blood, as their leathery wings are controled by a complex arrangement of genes that aren't simply dominant/recessive. A half-avariel and a Tana'ari teifling, for instance, would have a 10% chance of having a viable winged offspring, a 20% chance of it being totally wingless, and a 70% chance of being a hideous freak bent on world domination (with recruitment potential for the Legion of the Chimera, up Icewind dale way).

Okay - so I *may* just have a bit too much time on my hands... :)

I'd be surprised if they hadn't :)

NWN 2 mask of the betrayer will feature half wood elf/half drow. I'm gonna put my money on them NOT having thought about that. Probably just used Zhai from Demon Stone :P
Sage plays a paladin,

But if the wing genes are recessive, my kid might still be winged! I think that an elf has a greater chance of getting awinged child with an avariel than say, a human, because elves have lighter bones to begin with. So I would say that in the case of aerie and another elf, there is a 25 percent chance of the ickle one being winged.

Of course, I wouldn't want to try and imagine what kind of issues Aerie would have if her child were winged...

lmao! The speculations are immensely entertaining...

Proud Father: Aerie my love, look! Our little one seems to have wings, isn't that wonderful!

Aerie: *sniffs* W.. We... Well... I..

Proud Father: But what is the matter? You will be passing on your traditions, and our child will have the ability to fly

Aerie: *more doleful sniff* B... bu.... but... I.. remember how it was to fly... Oh.. amongst the clouds, mountain peaks and tree tops... and it h..hu.. hurt so much when Uncle Quayle told me they had to be cut off. And, even after all of our adventures... It s.. st... still.. makes me so tired when we walk for hours without rest. And then I s.. st.. start to remember my beautiful wings...

*melts down into a blubbering puddle of inconsolable sobs*

Kind of gives the "postpartum blues" a whole new meaning doesn't it? :D

ROFL!

yes...or something like

"WINGS? How can he have wings! Ohh....*blubber, sniff* how can I ever be a good mother to him...I can't teach him anything! I remember how my mother taught me to use my wings...the first time I soared alongside her...I'll never have that with our son..."

And then of course, thre should be a nice sensitive dialogue option like

"We can always have his wings surgically removed if you like..."

*wonders if Avariel teach their young to fly by chucking then out of the nest as well*

question - when all the Bhaal essence is collected etc, Imoen gives up hers...is the Solar going to rip the essence from my poor innocent little baby?

Um...topic, guys. Please. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

erm, sorry...

Anyway, it did take an awfully long time for the kid to be born in my game as well - I travelled around forever and slept a lot. It took about 2 hours RL time and I guess about 4 weeks game time. It was finally born on the dock in the north of the Watchers Keep perimeter.
