About every 3 minutes or so, my game will cut out, the screen will go black and it'll say, "The disc you are using may be damaged or may require cleaning. Press A to try again." And no matter how much I clean it, or even clean the tray in my xbox, it still does it. The game isn't scratched or anything either. I'm hoping nothing's wrong with my xbox. :( But yeah, my game has frozen a couple times. Freezing isn't what I'm worried about, though. It's that dumb message. And yeah, when my game froze, it made the buzzing noise. The thing that annoyed me the most was, after that "Press A to try again." message popped up a few times, I turned my xbox off, and when I came back later, the last few saves were gone. It's scaring me... I just got my xbox this Christmas and I don't want it to be dying. :( :(

P.S. It only does that with Morrowind. If anyone has any insight about what's going on, let me know. (im_stupid_duh@yahoo.com)

well mine freezes a lot, not nearly as much as every 3 minutes. however, my xbox freezes on every game just about. you should try playing different games, to see if its just ur xbox thats broke like mine. oddly enough my xbox freezes far more playing soul calibur 2 then it does morrowind.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

Well, in the first version of morrowind, I kept getting frozen in the same spot and it would crash every now and again, so I just went out and bought a new Morrowind game, my save games are on the XBOX hard disk so I dont have to start again, and when I played it, it was perfect! I did not freexe again until like 8 monthes of playing the game, but then I got GOTY version and now I think I might have to go out and buy the Disk again. :(

At least this is one thing that we can say is better about playing the game on XBOX than on PC :D

And yes, it does sometimes make a buzzing sound....

I don't have GOTY yet but i heard that the crashing wasn't as bad. MY Xbox does crash occasionally but will it still happen as much on GOTY?

Well yea 'cos it is the first version PLUS 2 new expansions, I also found that if you do these things, it could make the CD last longer:

*Blow on the CD at an angle every time you put the CD in and take it out, you will blow away all the small debris that could scratch the CD.

*Just wipe your T-shirt (cotton) or small piece of cloth on the tray on the sides so you can take away any dust and debris.

*Keep the game disk in a PC case 'cos in the new fangled cases, the CD rattles and can make even more scratches.

*Exhale on to the CD (it will slightly fog up) and wipe it with cotton again, but wipe from the inside out, not round.

*Wipe and blow in the CD case to keep that clean.

*If all else fails, buy a new Morrowind CD, you will still be able to play your original save games because they are on the Hard Drive or Memory card.

!~!Keep posting and see if we can make this thread a sticky to help other XBOX players in the future!~!

You may have a case of the Thomson syndrome; if not here is what it is for xbox gamers:
When the first Xbox's came out they were fitted with a Thomson DVD drive. As more came out they needed to up the speed of the drive so they did away with Thomson and started getting drives from Phillips and Samsung. These two drives are faster, the Samsung being the fastest. If you bought a first generation Xbox you are almost guaranteed to have this drive.
There are a couple ways to tell:
The biggest difference is in the look of the disc tray.
When you look at the disc tray it will have a cutout in it. The Thomson Drive's cutout is shaped like a tongue depresser. The Phillips drive is similar but there is a bulb shape at the end so it looked like the end of a thermometer. The Samsung looks like a mix of those two but has two cutout holes in it.
The other way to tell is by the serial number on the box. The last two numbers of the serial number of an Xbox with a Samsung drive will be 06. THe other two I'm not certain on.
There are only two ways to "fix" it:
You can call Microsoft and complain and complain but will eventually end up filing a complaing with the Better Business Bureau and Microsoft may offer to fix your xbox free of charge, other than that you will have to pay 75-100$ to get it fixed.
THe other way is just to buy a new Xbox and be wary of the serial number. If you're going to have yours fixed, be sure to specify you wish to have a Samsung drive replace the old Thomson.

Hope that helps....
:D

The game says "Save often, Vvarvendale can be a dangerous place" because of the freezing problem. But everyone I know who has Morrowind on XBox has a freezing problem with it.

I haven't had any dirty disc errors with GotY ever since I bought a Samsung xbox over the weekend. I found out I had a Thomson before so I bought a Samsung and byebye loading times and byebye DDE's. I couldn't look in a crate before without a 20 second loading time or the game freezing so it is very well a possibility the xbox is the problem, not the game.

well thank you lifeishell :p we all love necromancy.

i have only had a few problems with the x-box crashing, once when i tried to pick up the ring of healing, and then twice today!!! and once, yes, it made the buzzing noise. i think this happens when your game gets to a certain size, and need more meory to run? i have a crystal x-box, so i'm assuming it has the samsung drive?
