Starting a New Game, Any suggestions?
I am replaying through PS:T after many years of not playing it. When I did so, My character was a Fighter, with good fighter stats and I was not very pleased with the game because i couldnt do anything through conversation. it always came to blows. so does anyone have any suggestions on how I should play through this time?

You should definately try a mage this time around. I'm by no means a pro, but this stat combination has always worked for me:
Wisdom 18
Intelligence 18
Charisma 13
All other stats at 9
I'm of course concentrating on Wisdom for the 15% increased experience right from the start, which can reach a maximum of 35% later, and Intelligence, for all the bonuses it will give to your mage as well as all the additional dialogue options.
When it comes to actually playing the game, this character is going to be pretty weak in combat. However, I never found this to be a serious problem. There is not a lot of combat early on anyway, and using Morte as the front man to take all the damage is a solid strategy.
In the beginning, remember to get to O in the Smoldering Corpse Tavern right away for your +1 Wisdom and meet Mebbeth in Ragpicker's Square to become a mage. Once you are a mage, there is a long conversation you can engage in with Dak'kon about his teachings and the Circles of Zerthimon, which will continue over the course of the game involve *a lot* of experience.
As for stat points when you level up, Wisdom is your highest priority, followed by Intelligence (if you want to become a kick-ass mage). Charisma should be raised to level 18 throughout the game, but keep in mind you're going to get at least 3 (not counting the Tears of Salieru Dei) free Charisma points anyway (Vivian in the Clerk's Ward Brothel for CHARISMA +1, Sebastian in the Lower Ward for CHARISMA +2).

SPOILER!
Don't forget that to use Dak'kon's teachings you need to have a certain amount of points in wisdom and intelligence, so spread points between those two. Check in at the Tatoo shop as certain dialogue will unlock tatoo's that could be very handy indeed.

If you've played through the game before with a high wisdom and decent intelligence, I suggest you try it with low scores in both areas. You'll find it plays very differently at times, and is more combat-oriented.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
