In RL I am a fighter who doesn’t prefer to use weapons unless needed and prefers to concentrate on taking blows and using chi to power my punches. I’m a monk, who likes to use bound items on only people who use weapons as well and on common animals in the wild. I also prefer helping people and have an odd fascination with vampires. I like using potions when needed because I spend all my time on training physically and not learning spells, other then mysticism. I know I could be stronger if I didn’t limit myself, but I have more fun playing this way. Yes I’m sure many of you think I’m weird, however if we were all the same we'd probably spend less time together. Yes my character is a reflection of me here staring at this computer.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

In real life I'm a bright and smart dreamer and when I play games for the first time I always choose to be a mage, and a good one too. So you can say that my characters and I are pretty much alike! :)
You guys are my best friends, we've always been together, we're four of a kind laughing all day and palling away, we're best friends!

A mage is definately my type. Pure, no hybrids. In real life I am a pretty reflective guy, not at all into taking rash actions and going with the heart and all that. Cold and calculating, its easier to keep things the way you like them. A mage is a lot more like that than a warrior. A thief would fit that profile but for the fact that I am painfully moral so I cannot (even though I grit my teeth and try) do evil in any game. I sometimes kill someone for curiosity but I cannot possibly continue that game for more than 5 minutes. I keep telling myself its not real life but I still cant do it. So in a small way all decisions we make in role playing games (though not as extremely as in my case) are bound to whatever our personalities are like... obviously. That does not mean that if you are an assassin that you have homicidal tendencies, it just shows that you can detach yourself from your personality and possibly that you are not as strongly emotional.(or maybe you just are a serial killer). In the end the name of the genre would imply that you are not tied to the character(s) you play, as indeed you are playing a role, and not yourself, but who really doesnt put something of himself in any role he plays? Oh and as for clothing I like using glass armor because it looks cool, save the helm which is just damn annoying.

IRL i'm too honest for my liking, if someone gives me too much money back in a store, i return it immediately, before i realize that i could just put it in my wallet and walk away..

My char is a female redguard(i'm not a racist, but it would've been nice to be a white redguard)

she's the master of fighters guild, arch mage of mage guild and climbing up the steps of morag tong atm..

i try to exploit every angle in the game whether by using telekinesis or by simply casting my special angry spell on chars to get what i want, frenzy 100pts on touch, oh yeah! i got full set of glass armor at lvl 3.. but i prefer to use the heaviest stuff i can find..

so i guess my char almost direct opposite of the real me, she takes what she wants, as long as she's not caught.. hmm maybe that is me, i mean i'd take 1M someone's money, if i'd get away with it, but i guess the fear of getting caught is too big..

I don't know about being a reflection of my RL self, but I also tend to play mages that have a long bow & long blade handy. In both Morrowind & NWN, I have started the game with mages & at some point, as a break, started over and played a fighter type character for short periods.
I tend to consider myself a Paladin-type, but usually fall short of the 'always good' character. Lately I have went more for the chaotic good/neutral sort. I'm generally willing to help anyone who asks if I am able.

Part of my 'attraction' to the mage character class comes from the Dragonlance stories. I liked the character Raistlin. He was a very sickly, weak, and frail human, but was still a powerful mage. When I play a mage, sometimes I will play a 'Raistlin' type character with very low strength, no armor, only a dagger for a weapon, etc. I usually swap between this type of mage and one with a little more strength and a sword & bow. I've also always liked long bows, especially in Morrowind, where you have to actually aim to hit the enemy.
I think after I finish the NWN OC, I'm going to reload Morrowind and start playing again. I had almost completed MW when I stopped playing. Not sure if I'll start over or try to pick up where I left off....

me neither...
And I hate bows, crossbows and throwingweapons. Its weak to kill someone from a distance...reminds me of the movie "The Last Samurai".

not necessarily weak, but did musashi (undefeated samurai and sensei) not say that it is weak to focus on one form of attack? i'll find the quote... but i think there is no honour in killing with magic thats why I like that orc that gives you the umbra sword he has honour. run in there with a katana and wakisachi (or Tachi) and stab them in the face, v. honourable. but i see where your coming from spell chucker.

And the last samurai F*ckin rules monolith damn right!

No, they would shoot me... ;) :p

Alright, weak was the wrong term...in my opinion it's not honourable ( at least in Morrowind). I do martial arts ( Taekwondo, Kick-Boxing, Kung-Fu) and it doesn't fit in the way I see the world. Samurais used bowes as well, but for them it was an art form in which they achieved mastery and it had some kind of a ritualy...

I am not anything like my character... she is soooooooooo much cooler than me!

imagine taking swordsmanship training instead of school!

that would be a blast!

but my morrowind character does sort of look like me, she's a wood elf so most hair choices were blonde but i like darker hair (like mine) and she does sort of have to do what I make her do so I am "one with my character..."

lol!

i still can't get over the fact that she can use a REAL sword and I can't...

*This post is one of the first i did*

all warfare was an art, thats why most martial arts have "do" which means "art of", "way of" or "mastery of" look at Taekwon-do (which i too practice), jeet kune do, Haidong gum-do etc, etc.

what do you mean by:

"it doesn't fit in the way I see the world"

im intruiged

And although the Samurai used Bows, and projectile weapons, they never focused on one form of attack, if they trained to often with a bow or spear, they would become vulnerable in close combat, and vice-versa.

meditate on this...

Or is my English too bad?

About the rest:
I know ;) . What I wrote was more or less dedicated to the others, cause I think we have more or less the same opinion. Using ranged weapons as Samurais did is alright because there's a philosophie behind it.

My character is a devilishly handsome, witty, and superbly charming individual who is currently carrying out a plan to dominate the world by stealing every article of clothing in the game and forcing people to stay inside until they pledge allegience to me.

So...yeah, pretty accurate representation of me IRL :D

lol.

i can actually imagine a friend of mine doing something like that...

lol.

okay... IF i wanted to dominate the world why not just import thousands of "spriggins"...

everyone would be begging me to send them away because spriggins are the most annoying things on the face of the planet!

(sorry... i just can't get over how annoying they are...)

Wood Elves Rule by the way...

(random comment: if you have any interest in hockey and/or live in Canada you people would be happy to know that THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS WON!!!!!!! YEAH!!!)

*cough**cough* right... no one but me would understand, it's pretty sad actually... *sniff*

Samurai, rule, cliff racers suck
it = shooting

i understand now.

Speaking of the samurai, I watched the rest of "the last samurai"last night....ooohhhhh
its pant-expandingly good, I cried... :(

that would be cool if you got samurai style characters, i think that would make the game more interesting in osme peoples views, i mean you get the ninja-esque dark brotherhood (although Ninja were more profficient granted) so it would be cool if there was like some kind of faction hiding behind the ghostfence or something, intresting idea for a mod maybe...

oh and hwesta_elf, spriggan arent the most annying things in Vvardenfell...
