In the Main Halls I followed the red paved/tiled road to the east, passed the end of it and continued on a little south of due east till I came to a courtyard with a Dwarven Marker in the middle of it. Surrounding the marker are 6 Druid-like structures (a horizontal stone slab supported by a stone pillar at each end) one of which has fallen over.
R click on the marker tells you to "LOOK CLOSER". L click and it says :YOU LEARN NOTHING NEW ABOUT THIS CEREMONIAL STONE". Then, when you click on the map, the view clearly shows a set of stairs , by the marker, that are not shown without the map!!! Now, my question is, how does one access these stairs??
Another landmark, relative to this location, is another set of stairs,to the northwest, that give you limited access to the Deep Halls, only 5 or 6 rooms.
Great game, so far. Any help would be appreciated.
In Visable Stairs??
Can't leave a buddy without a reply now can I?
I know exactly where you're talking about. You need an Ancient Dwarven Key to activate the portal. If you don't have it or have already used it then it won't work. Not ever if you've used it already. It does get you into an interesting area in the dungeon but not a game-critical area.
To anyone else reading this - never be so proud as to leave a post unanswered! Don't think answering silly, futile or obvious questions (or whatever) is beneath you! I'm sure you've all asked the same types of questions and were kinda bummed when no-one answered. I've done my share of asking dumb questions ... okay, maybe more than my share but then again I am the Perpetual Newbie!
Happy hacking, people.

Sorry Corey (on 2 counts) First, I shouldn't have left this post unanswered after I found the solution...
Second, hope you don't mind, but its the Ancient Rusted Iron Key and you either use it (by dumb luck 'cause nothing tells you to except the walkthrough) at area 42 (in the game it is called the Dwarven Marker) and you get teleported down to the Crypts area of Deep Halls rooms 4-5-6 (which btw are not shown on the w/t map!), Now, if youv'e already used the same key to open room 44, you can't use it at the Marker, but you get to go down the stairs, in this room, to room 6 in the Crypts and so on.....
I hope I don't come off as a showoff, but by sheer coincedence, I just
finished yesterday, cleaning up unfinished business in the Main/Deep halls, and this was the last section to be worked
out!!! I do appreciate your help...
