I dont have SoU, but loaded up HotU cause I have that one.
Anyway, is it just me, or is HotU unbelievably easy? I havent changed game difficulty from the original NWN, but I only have one henchman with me and second rate gear, and Im cleaning everything in my path. Ive only died once in 2 days of continual gameplaying, and that was an oversight on my part.
My question is...has anyone else experienced this? I mean, Im taking on groups of 5-10 monsters at a time; sometimes by myself cause my henchman gets stuck in the hallway, and Im waxing them. Im not into undermountain yet, but it just seems that even though Im only level 17, the gameplay should be a little more "tense'? Hmm...Also, whats with the jump from treasure chests giving up only 20-35 gp's at the end of the original NWN, and now, about every chest I come across has a few hundred gp's in it? Bizarre.
Ive made more in equipment sold and gp's found in 2 days of HotU, then I did in weeks of playing NWN, and I left the original game with almost 300K. Just dont seem right somehow. Thoughts would be appreciated.
HotU what the heck??

HotU has gone the direction as Throne of Bhaal did for Baldurs Gate.
Higher levels, more monsters, better equiptment and much more gold.
Generally speaking, NwN is not that hard, but neither was BG/ToB without modifications (or SW:KotOR for that matter - it seems to be a trend these days, proberly due to increasing the size of possible user base, but that is a different discussion )
....but you will find some (not many - but some) fights where you can be hard pressed. Some battles favors magic users, others favors meele users.
Also - don't worry to much about the gold - there will be plenty of things to spend the gold on, so it is good to have saved up some money.

What did you expect? Epic levels are extremely cheesy, so unless you want to take on a Great Wyrm Pseudonatural Paragon Prismatic Dracolich with a Chosen of Bahmut template over that nothing should be of extreme challenge. After all most other WotC RPG's are capped at level 20.
As for gold you want to save up several million for chapter 3 .

"Heya! Have you been to Baldur's Gate? I've been to Baldur's Gate... Oops, stepped into something. Have you stepped into something?"

yeah, i hit the same thing for HOTU until i went to the isle of the maker in the underdark. as a lvl 10 weapon master, lvl 10 fighter, lvl2 rogue, i got plastered by the Maker. Repeatedly. Over and over. So yes, the vast majority is going to be pretty easy with a few exceptions that grow more tough as time goes by. just don't expect anything particularly tough in undermountain.
as far as money goes, you will have plenty of chances to spend it. heal potions are 2000+ a piece and when you find the weapons upgrader, all of your money can be dropped into that nice man's coffers. I have already maxed out the sentients sword's enhancements and have made Ichthia's knife +5, keen, permanent haste on character, and +20 SR. Will add more as money permits.
Epic=somewhat cheesy. Of course, when you pass lvl 20 you should expect everyone to be little challenge. after all, you have become god-like.

HotU was a little dissappointing.. fun and epic, but dissappointing.
First, the early stages where they strip you of any and all level-appropriate gear is probably the most challenging part of the game. This really brings out the old fashion dungeon-crawl on a budget, and it's fun. Trying to figure out how to take down the Blue Dragon with two barely equipped henchmen and practically no gear yourself posed an interesting situation. The Hall of Kings caught me off guard once or twice as well, and the puzzles there were classic.
After that, all it was is you, two nearly equal powered henchmen, and the game throwing 'hall trash' at you left and right, infrequently mixing in something that posed a genuine threat (the two-bladed sword drow, mithral golems, demilich, end boss, etc).
Furthermore, a LOT of the new HotU feats are inaccessible. Feats requiring over 23 in a stat is virtually impossible unless you meet all the following requirements:
1) Started with at least 16 in that statistic
2) Invested ALL ability points into that statistic
3) Single-classed your way into epic levels and earned bonus feats, or progress as a level 10+ prestige class
4) Invest all epic-level feats into that statistic
5) Replay HotU or other modules with the character to reach levels 30+
This renders some of the cooler feats like Dragon Shape, Burst of Speed or Devastating Critical practically worthless, save to gawk at.
Lastly, and most dissappointing, I realized somewhere in the middle of chapter 3 that I wasn't in chapter 1 anymore. Both expansions were short. Very short. IMO, the origional campaign was long, dragged out, and unrewarding in general, but I think they overcompensated HotU just a little.

Many of the high feats of HotU as well as the level cap are all directed at multiplayer.
It is a big part of the NwN "experience" - multiplayer - therefore, I I don't think you can hold that (unusable feats) anagainst the HotU module - they are still accessible through the game, just not that module (with ordinary play).
The official NwN modules are short yes - but that is a commen problem with modern games these days. Luckily NwN has prolonged lifespan with modulebuilding from a vast community and the possibility of good multiplaying. Something many other short games lack.
(all that being said - I've been disapointed in NwN and its follow-ups since release - it should have been so much more then it became)

I'm wondering what puzzles in the Hall of Kings. I picked up the sword from the one king, they all attacked me and my one henchman (the Kobold), and I greased every one of them and still had 3/4 of my health left. Sigh....I didnt find any puzzles here?
I've been saving the room with the blue dragon in it. I havent played since I posted this thread, but I'll lay money that with just my one lame bard henchman, I can go in there and kill it, and still live the first time. We'll see. I'll come back and post after I go in.
But thats what Im trying to say in this thread...what gives?
Yes, I DID start the campaign with all my gear stripped. I just used the 300K I had carry over from the original NWN, and bought all new gear before I went in. The stuff I found in the first 10 minutes down on the first levels was better than the stuff I bought, so in essence, Im better off in many ways than the equip. they stripped me of!! LMAO!! Keep in mind also, that I have sent all resurrected henchmen Ive found, back upstairs. Im not using them. I have only one henchman..(when he's alive). Many many times he was getting greased in the first minute of a major fight (i.e. hall of kings), and I was left alone and still won the battle. Sigh sigh sigh sigh.....
so far all this game seems to me, is a way to introduce people to the multi-player aspect of neverwinter. My God, I hope this isn't a preview of Neverwinter going the way of everquest, and this is their way of showing us the direction theyre taking this game.
