Icewind Dale: Worth buying?
Icewind Dale: Worth buying?
I'm considering purchasing Icewind Dale. Has anyone played it, is it worthwhile? How does it rank with BGII?
IWD is a good game.It plays different compared to BG2.It is more linear and has less replayability, but it has nice dungeons, very good spell effects (i think some spells look better than BG2) and a variety of well-designed monsters.
If you can,try it before you buy it-borrow it from a friend or something.

Baldur's Gate is an exception to what I know of AD&D games, IWD is not.
In Baldur's Gate the story is strongly driven by the plot of the game. IWD revolves mainly about dungeon crawling and killing monsters. The story is only subordinate to that.
But it is a nice game by itself. I finished it twice in a row.

What about Baldurs Gate. I have BG2, and they are selling BG in the store. Should i buy it, or will it be a disapointment since i have played BG2?

I bought BG 1 after having played and finished BGII and I must say that I was a little bit disappointed. The graphics while still good don't compare with the quality offered by playing at 800x600 or more and the most interesting part of BGII (for me) the dialogues and npc interactions are not as developed. Plus it's damn hard not to have a dual-wielder in your group to kick some @$$ Still, for 19.95$ or less in most stores it's difficult to go wrong

Heh, well of course BG1 won't compare to BG2. They had months looking over their original work and you are bound to get better results improving gameplay.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that BGI will be all that great for someone who's played BGII already. But, that said, there's no denying it's greatness. It has some annoying weaknesses, but I remember how completely engrossed I was with it at the time. If you can spare $20 and are willing to accept the fact that it isn't nearly as sophisticated as BGII, you'll have a good time with it.

As for the exp. cap in IWD ... yes, in that aspect the game differs as well.
While BG II has an exp. cap you can reach EASILY, you won't be able to do so in IWD (and that one is only at about 1,9 million or so...).
But I played it twice with the same party (well, yes, OF COURSE I wanted to use those high-level spells you got in the end of the first time), so I reached my cap in IWD. I wonder how much higher it'll get in Heart of Winter.
