I don't know the story, but I'm pretty sure that masque can be found in a daedric shrine east of ald redaynia and west of sanctus shrine. Just talk to the statue 7 he gives you some quest about finding some unworty warrior & killing him. If I remember correctly you go to vivec first, talk to some random who sends you to gnaar mok or something. You'll find the guy there. Kill him. Return to the shrine & you'll get the helm. I think maybe the statue tells you more about the guy too, if you're looking for the history...

Not even close. Its in a dwemer tower (Sorkvild's Tower) just outside of Dagon Fel. There is a book that tells of Clavicus Vile. The Bitter Cup is one of his artifacts as well. Now that item is found near Ald Redaynia.

Not even close.

Are you sure? I was 99% sure that was the one... Of course I might be wrong, & if that's the case I apologize for spreading false info..
:o

But if I'm wrong, what's the name of the helm/masque you get in that shrine I was talking about? I'm pretty sure it fortifies personality by 30 or so...
(edit: Nevermind, I saw it somewhere... The helm of oreyn bearclaw??)

PS: For the record, I dare say I was close geographically speaking... From sorkvlid's tower to the shrine it's not more than a measly few stone's throws... :p

Yes, I'm sure. The Masque of Clavicus Vile is in Sorkvild's Tower. Yes it does fortify personality CE+30. The Helm of Oreyn Bearclaw fortifies Endurance+40 and Agility+40 CE. Its the reward from Malakath for killing Oreyn's cowardly relative. Ald Reydania is at the far opposite end of the island. I hardly call that being close. Its like telling someone to search in Chicago when you meant Cleveland.

I see your point, but by close I meant relatively, considering how huge Vvardenfell is. If you look at it from a global scale, Chicago & Cleveland are next door neighbors! :D

...but I don't mean to nitpick. I was merely trying to get my helms in order. Once again I apologize for misinformation...

PS: We're still nowhere closer to the history of the masque, are we?

There is a reference in The Book of Daedra that gives this info about him: "Clavicaus Vile, whose sphere is the granting of power and wishes through ritual invocations and pact."

Also Darkest Darkness mentions the masque and its long term bindings. He is briefly mentioned in On Oblivion as a daedric prince.

Tamrielic Lore has this to say about the masque itself: "Ever the vain one, Clavicus Vile made a masque suited to his own personality. The bearer of the Masque is more likely to get a positive response from the people of Tamriel. The higher his personality, the larger the bonus. The best know tale of the Masque tells the tale of Avalea, a noblewoman of some renown. As a young girl, she was grossly disfigured by a spiteful servant. Avalea made a dark deal with Clavicus Vile and received the Masque in return. Though the Masque did not change her looks, suddenly she has the respect and admiration of everyone. A year a day after her marraige to a well connected baron, Clavicus Vile reclaimed the Masque. Although pregnant with his child, Avalea was banished from the Baron's household. Twenty one years and one day later, Avalea's daughter claimed her vengence by slaying the Baron."

Feyfolken III( talks about the daedra Feyfolken being a servitor of Clavicus Vile and an agent of mischief.

I just thought Sorkvild Enchanted a helm after Claviulus (sp?) Vile since he might worship him and use it to speak to the locals, since they all hate him, the enchantment would be useful.....
