Hi. I have been into D&D in it's various forms since I was 10, so maybe I can help. In NWN, the spell casters are (FINALLY)allowed, nay, encouraged to shoot arrows from either crossbows or regular vertical bows. All you really need to worry about, rather than multi-classing, is high dexterity for this ability to be useful. Compliment that with a high Intelligence (if wizard) or Charisma (if sorcerer). Make you character look cool using a suit of leather armor rather than a robe, unless you want to look more like a spellcaster than an archer, and you are set. Other than that, I would say don't multiclass since you will have access to more spells with a L20 spellcaster rather that a Fighter10/Wizard10. Does that help? Hope so. If not, think up some specific concerns to address, I will see what I can do.

There's a FAQ here (though I haven't read it yet).

Making a good Arcane Archer depends on what you want from it. I use Arcane Archers because that are more consistant and reliable then basic melee-fighters. They don't rely (like most melee builds) on criticals and they have the highest attack base possible. For this type of build simply max DEX and have lots of AA levels (20+). You may also want to take some fighter levels for the increased AB.

I dislike builds that have too many caster levels because they are usually spread too thinnly. You must spread between two stats (DEX and INT/CHA), your AB will be much lower (and possibly AC), you spells will have lower DC and they will have trouble (alot against monks) piercing Spell Resistance. There are probably still more reasons that I can't think of right now. However there are also some great advantages. One redeeming factor is being able to use high level buffs and time stop (though if you get to these high caster levels it would probably be smarter to simply abandon AA). Another would be epic spells, or more precisely Epic Warding (though your caster level will affect the already short duration).

I'd love to refute everything you said about hybridizing a caster, Noober ;p If you want, I can post the specs on my fighter/sorc (level 26 or 27, I forget).
