Make a berserker and then dual it to cleric early on (8-9th lv) and you'll have a very effective cleric!

i dont like druids, i think there weak even with iron skin, jaheira is nice but it takes a lot of time for her to become great.
pure clerics are ok great spells, turn undeath but not very strong

but i love playing a Ranger/Cleric! havinig all druid and cleric spells all in 1
iron skins rule, so does insect plague, all falls when my iron skinned,blade barriered,hasted,rightous magiced, chaotic commanded Ranger/Cleric attacks.

i now play with a party of 3 a mage/thief a ranger/cleric and kelsey i want to have done all quest before going to spellhold
only need the planar sphere/ twisted rune and kangaxx so far it has been a blast!

Improved pit fiends from tactics make protection from evil 10' radius (and therefore clerics) very useful.

@kopywrite,

Indeed, they are necessary, they are cool. But the game challenge without them is greatly increased, or not? I dont think they are that necessary, you know.

Two classes that are a must have in a non solo game (of course)

Strong Fighter
Smart Mage

With them you shall be able to disrupt everything (sometimes barely).

I've played my all-bard party sometime ago, fun, I've played a all fighter party, fun, all mage party, fun... but I cant see myself playing a all cleric party.

They are always expendable. (read Anoweeenie)
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

Read somewhere that the only time Wes (of Tactics etc.) had trouble with Ascension was with an all fighter/druid party...would be similar for an all cleric party I'd imagine.

for how few spells they get per day it is kind of a waste to have clerics/druids in bg2. go solo with my kensai, quick save often, do tons of crap quest to get XP and those big fights are no prob. the only real hard thing is gettin my hands on that damn celestial furry, even harder to get my hands on it and live...
