many ways...
1. Buy the expansion and get to level 40
2. There are many programs that you can get viaTeamBG and such that will do it

err...TOB caps @ 8 million exp points, so you can only get that many points of fighter/thief levels. Looking at the game guide (which I do not have here right now) you can get both classes to around lvl 30 multiclassing and dual classing... many combinations are possible for that.

So NO, unless you use an exp cap reover (TeamBG, scroll up) your max xp is 8 million and you cannot get a lvl 80 fighter/thief for example

Regardless of the amount of XP, the maximum level you can reach in Baldur's Gate II is level 50. This is basically hardcoded into the game and hence it is not possible to get around it (if you try to exceed level 50 with some kind of hack, you end up being level -1).

Regardless, level 50 is extremely high. Furthermore, consider the fact that mostly fighter type characters can reach level 40 and mage type characters can only reach about level 30 (at 8 million XP). As a result, in case of a mage at level 50, you are a whopping 20 levels higher with an XP cap remover! :)

This is correct. As a result, let me copy and paste this information from TeamBG's webpage:

"Removing the experience cap of a game is not enough to play to high levels, also download and install a rule pack to ectend the rules tables of your game".

These rule packs can be downloaded from the same page that includes the text I quoted above. The address is:

http://www.teambg.net/?page=tools/xpcap

Have fun! :)

As a note, if you have playing something like the Big Picture mod (or potentially some other mod), there might already be a xp cap remover in place and therefore downloading and using your own XP cap remover in such an instance can actually break your game. Just to let you know.
