Enserric? *SPOILER*
Those of you who've heard this question a thousand times, sorry...
While I'm really fond of my darling (now) short sword Enserric (which I got from the Sleeping Kings Hall, Undermountain level 1 Central, HotU), I would like to help the poor bastard. I am now in the Golem Maker dungeon (Underdark), and it just seems like there's something I should do. He (Enserric himself) says that maybe he could be imported into a golem, but how? Is it possible to free him, if so when and how?
Otherwise I'm new here, so hello everyone! The sun shines warmly in Stockholm, but I'm in my bath robe in front of the computer. Lord.

I have him as a long sword also (by choice). I've noticed that when I use him, I don't notice the vampiric regeneration effect to be working. Is there something I need to do (equip, etc)? I'm a mage at heart, but have used the sword specifically to get regeneration. What am I missing here? And do you need to talk to him occasionally?

Later on, you can use Enserrics 'boost' effects with zero penalty if you equip an amulet of health (one that prevents ability drain). This is also handy during the contest at the avariel temple.
For those who want Enserric as something other than a sword, it is possible to have Enserric as other weapons by passing on his 'properties' to the new weapon (specifically, the inteligent item properties and the 'tag').
I was a little dissappointed in that the talking sword was unsuable by someone who specialized in two bladed swords, go figure.

And Spell Chucker - the vampiric generation works fine for me, but naturally he needs to be equipped and hit someone/-thing in order for it to work.
I think in NWN original campaign you just needed to carry stuff for their abilities to work, but now if it's stuff you can wear or equip you have to do that first. So if you have "haste" once per day on your boots you have to wear them to use it. This system is good, imo.

2 notes:
Vampiric regeneration works only if you hit someone, as stated above, so unless your mage basically is a fighter, there's little point
Regeneration works all the time... however many hp it says/round
You can talk to Enserric as much as you want, if you don't want him to be a LS tell him and he'll change

Thanks for the info. I know about the differences between vampiric regen vs standard regen. I just wasn't noticing any regen when I used him in a battle. Of course, it's possible that I overlooked it while trying to not die.
I did not know about changing him for long to short or other after he is in your posession. That is cool. Maybe I'll change him to a short sword later. Right now, I've backed off of HotU and went back to the OC (NWN). I never finished it, but I'm close now. I'm ready for chapter 4, just cleaning up a few things and trying to decide what I'm going to take to chp 4 and what I'm going to sell.

I'll pay closer attention next time and see if I notice it. It sounds like I'm probably just missing it with all the other stuff that's going on.
Also, as a side note...does anyone else get emailed when someone replies to a thread they are subscribed to? If so, does your message contain an invalid url too? Mine always has an extra "forums".

How does this work?
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

By equipping an amulet of healt (possible greater amulet or something, can't remember the excat name) you get "immune" to ability decrease. Thus you can use Enserric's abilities withouth geting drained ability for that duration, because you are "immune"

Maybe i should have been more specific, the only ability that Enserric has in my game is talking to him.

Ahhhh
Well - about the time I reached Underdark, and was about to get him upgraded by the smith there, he suddenly took on a new ability.
Basically - it gives the option to add one of two values to his enchantment bonus (or buff his enchantment bonus up to the vaule) for a drain in constitution for a while.
I can't remember the excat numbers but it was something like adding +5 or +9 for a drain of 4 or 8 constitution for a short (to short imo) duration.
But again - I can't remember the excat figures.
Hmm - wasn't that long ago I played this ... think I still have a savegame, so could check.
Edit: just checked and it seems to alter his enchantment bonus to either 7, 8 or 9 for a drain in constitution of 2, 4 or 6.
It doesn't add to the enchantment bonus, but simply alters to the new value for a short duration.
