Can't say I see your point. Everybody, including you and me, bring their own baggage to any relationship. By modern standards, Aerie's a "battered child," Viconia grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks," and Jaheira is a widow just growing out of her grief. Hey, that's life.

Besides, who would find a very vanilla relationship sub-plot terribly interesting? ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I don't follow your opinion of "None of the relationships end well." Assuming you make good choices, they all end well. Well, not Viconia's, but that was pretty much doomed from the get-go.

What about the NPC's relationships? Keldorn's wife cheats on him and Jan saves his beloved's daughter from the abusive husband and then they just get back together and leave Jan out in the cold. "Realistic" dysfunctionalism.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

Can you really have the Aerie and Jaheira romances end up as happy endings?</STRONG>
I wouldn't call the endings of either "unhappy", but just for a frame of reference, are you referring to SoA or ToB?

Sure they have happy endings.

After Jaheira finally invites you to share her sleeping bag, she wakes up with a smile on a face, all chipper like, and says, "Good Morning All!" That's where is stays until TOB... haven't had any TOB dialogs with her yet.

As far as Aerie, I've never romanced her (she keeps dying), but I've heard there's a pretty happy ending to that one in TOB.

The Aerie and Jaheira romance endings are happy, but Viconia's is not. As for my personal opinion, the Aerie and Viconia endings are the ones I'd pick. Mainly because you eventually end up with a son (and with Aerie, a daughter as well). I just like the idea of my character having a progeny of his own. The ending for Aerie's romance is really peaceful and happy, but Viconia gets poisoned by a follower of Lolth. So, my verdict; the Viconia romance ending. It's sad but it gauruntees that the PC and his son bond (father and son chopping up Drow on a crusade of vengeance :D  ), unlike the unfortunate ending for Cernd and his kid. :(
I guess it all depends on your personal taste/expectations for an ending. I like the Viconia ending additionally because it would make for a cool subplot for BG3 (which we'll never see, but hey, we can dream ;) )
I saved Suldanesellar from destruction, and all I got was this stupid amulet.
