Playing styles...

Post by HiRo11er »

So I was running around & doing my thing, when I came to wonder how other people approach the game. What are your playing styles? Any particular geographic region you end up spending most of your time in? Any places you usually stay away from?

Personally, I like to be thorough, and do quests as they come to me. I'll usually also focus on one guild & rise to stardom there before I move on. Otherwise I feel my journal becomes way too hard to navigate.

I also don't think I've ever explored molag mar all the way through. It just seems that after running around in vivec for hours I'm sick & tired of that layout; especially in a wannabe town such as molag mar... ;)
It also gets to be a bit dreary...
Sadrith Mora on the other hand, I like a lot. There's just so much variety, it seems. & it looks nice, too...

Anybody else?

lol! excepting your focus on a single guild you roughly just described my preferences.

I often roam around the southern and western sides of the island, I like the lush landscape. Conversely, I have spent far less time exploring the Ashland area.

Right. The Ashlands are dreary and scary.
THe elementals. Darned elementals running around too.

The North Coast and grass lands aren't bad though. The South, south East and South West are the best though. the good towns are there too.

I like to walk around, then look at my world map to see how much has turned from orange to color. Wheeee!

I also like dwemer ruins more than daedric...

Chimp :the wanderer

My particular playing style is more of a "maul all" playing style, i i dont like something/soneone, i'll hit them with my claymore until it/he/she dies.

Ive probably spent most of my time (recently anyway) in mournhold doing the Tribunal quests, i like mournhold cos its just so different from anywhere else, her hands are cool, the plots cool even Eno's cool.

other than that i just kinda wander. Ive not really commmited myself to the main storyline at the moment so i just do what I feel needs doing, wether its ridding the world of social rejects, collecting armours (e.g. daedric, dweemer) or something.

My style isn't yet evolved much. Since this is only my first character, but somethings I can say already. Like I always tend trying to avoid the ashlands. I prefer to stay in the South West of the island. Balmora is my favorite town, it feels like home. Mabey thats because thats the first town you really got to do some quests and than return to it. But I dont been to all the towns yet so maby I'll find a place I much more like, but I dont think so.

I usually just wander around from place to and get lost a lot  Its quite funny actually. I love to wander around finding all these cool expensive items and then i lose track of what quests i have and havent done. I alwasy end up doing things or killing people really early that are involved in quests.
Then the people who assign me jobs get really mad or really happy.

I REALLY enjoy the Ashlands and the Ashstorms, and I prefer to stay away from towns since their always so predictable. I also love camping out in the ashlands in one of these hut things I come across, its always so much fun. And I prefer daedric ruins to Dwemer Ruins.

I usually just wonder around the game looking for new things to do, freeing slaves most of the time. I only do a few quests here and there for each person, then I move on. It's fun too, you find things you didn't know about. For example, I got a Brocade shirt and Silk pants, both better then their exquisite counterparts. Also I found the summon goldsaint spell.

I probably spend most of my time in Balmora, just so I can sell all my extra potions and get rid of any silver or bonemold items I'm carrying. I can also teleport at the mages guild to Caldera and give the scamp a soul gem, then go to Ald'ruhn to drop off my daedric and glass junk.

I'll master the guilds later. The items you get from them aren't always impressing. Mages guild you get a staff with levitate 1 point for 120 seconds. What if you want off in 30 seconds? 1 point is slow too. I can enchant a better Item then that.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

I never bother picking up anything anymore, except maybe some potions or scrolls if I'm in need, or it's worth a ton...
I'll sell a single daedric item once in a while, just enough to keep me around 10k, and then plainly ignore all kinds of loot unless it's worth at least 1000...
Anytime I've loaded up on treasure I'll usually teleport back to my house and decorate it with weapons, items & armor. All the not-so-pleasing-to-the-eye things will get stored in boxes and crates along the wall. Quest items go in a separate storage area. That way I always know where my stuff is... :)

I definitely agree that daedric ruins are great places to loiter. Tough monsters, good loot, and all kinds of weird angles and colors...

PS: Just found goldbrand last night... SWEET! Too bad I'll have to pimp up my long blade skill before I get to use it to any effect...

I'm kinda weird when it comes to video games... I pretend my character is an actual person, and I'll talk to him and ask him what he wants to do and stuff... (Of course, he never talks back so I just answer for him.) Anyways... What I'm donig currently: I like to make as much money as I can, get to the highest level I can, and gather as much stuff as I can. And I store it all in my houses in Balmora. Yeah, I do the same as you. I do the quests in one guild and build up my reputation and so forth and finish the quests in that guild before I move on to the next. And I absolutely HATE the Ashlands region. (Ashlands? The gray scary rock disease-ridden place.) I like to walk around on the grass and chase the non-existent butterflies and shoot Netches from far off with my Bow and then pretend to eat it and skin it as if I'm living off of the land. Yeah... I'm weird. :D Best way to go. Anyways, I try getting to the highest level I can without starting the main quest. Which isn't hard or anything, just fun.

I prefer the watery areas that are free of those great creatures known as Cliff Racers. The area north-north-west of Vivec, near Dren Plantation is my favorite area to be in. As for my city, Balmora is tops because it has my nice little house in it, and access to many guilds. The city also offers extensive resources of training and quests. Plus Moonmoth Legion Fort is a quick walk away, if you are a Laymember or belong to the Legion. On the subject of ruins, nothing beats the Daedric ruins. Why explore dwemer ruins that have no creature challanges to them? With the Daedric ruins you always have a nice 5 Daedra vs 1 Player fight, and the best thing is, you walk into a shrine and walk right back out and all the monsters will have respawned (doesnt work 100% of the time, I'd say about 85% however I find if you dispose of the corpses you have better chances) All in all, I'll go where my guild needs me to go.

I just realized that no-one was giving any props to the Dwemer. I think those ruins stylistically are the coolest structures in the game. I still remember when I first saw a real Dwemer ruin, complete with statues & all. They're pretty impressive!

I like to walk around on the grass and chase the non-existent butterflies and shoot Netches from far off with my Bow and then pretend to eat it and skin it as if I'm living off of the land. Yeah... I'm weird.

That's funny... Seems like we have our own naturist in the forums! :D

By the way: what's up with all these slaves? There's no quest telling you to free them all, is there? I probably would free them, if it wasn't for the fact that they don't seem to appreciate it. I'll free them, and they'll keep on standing right next to their owner... I'd probably help a few more of them if they actually started grinning and running down the road while singing songs of joy...

I agree with the comment about slaves. I believe there is a mod that lets you join the twin lamps, and free them which would be nice. I think freeing them also gives you repuation points.

In my games i dont even care about my rep. i go from town to town killing and takings as i please. If i get caught i pay for it. One of my games I went on killing streak just for the fun of it. There is no one left in any of the cities or towns. There all deserted. The only person still alive is me basically.
