newbie import question

Post by duggrr »

So I'm a bit behind the times and just finished BGI the other day. When I defeated Sarevok I saw a message that indicated it exported my character. So I installed BGII today and am unable to import my char. Any help??

Hrrmm..

I think I had that problem. If memory serves me correctly, you need to copy your character over manually to the BGII saves directory, then import it (annoying, eh?) - it will reset your EXP to 85,000, I think, and you wll be able to reassign weapon proficiencies. If you wish a kit, or class not supported in BG1, you'll need to use SK or some such to edit it in.

For a bit more background. I encountered a glitch in BGI where I was not able to finish Lothander's quest. Even though I gave him the gaes, it never registered. It told me that I gained an item, but all I got was a regular antidote. Then when I went to talk to Marek, he ignored me. I killed him and attained his half of the antidote but drinking it did not remove my ailment. So I just blew throught the rest of the game and was able to finish it before my chars died. Does this have anything to do with it??

It will reset to 85K unless you have played with BG1:ToSC, in which case it will import up to the EXP cap from ToSC (if you had reached it in BG1).

EXP

Actually, I don't think it respects the TotSC cap (120,000 right?) my guy was at the cap, and came into BGII with significantly less - 85 or maybe 90K. I was mildly vexed.

Every time I've imported a ToSC character at cap, he started BG2 at cap (161.000 if I remember right).

Dunno why yours haven't, though.

Well...

It's not like it really matters much, I could just SK in or CLUA the EXP if I actually cared.

I always do that :D Geez, I worked way too hard in BG/TotSC with the cap off for the engine to simply snatch my xp away...
