Cleric Tower - Ilmater Ritual

Post by tc_darragh »

I need some advice fighting Xvim. He is immune to all but 3 of my spells and only one of my weapons appears to do any damage to him. In addition he appears to have a very high hit point value. :(

I just killed him. My cleric summons two elementals. One of them Earth and the second is Fire. He killed two of them but my paladin wth holy avenger did some damage at the back. While close combat is going on, my wizard send him a chain lighting and the druid called lighting (i don't remember the spell indoors may be static charge) and i killed him.

Just curious. I never used chain lightning, how does it work, and how did your other charactors avoid damage.
Also you said Call lightning works inside? Cool

:) no i mean the the version of "call lightning" that works inside (so called "static charge).
Chain lightning - ".... strikes the initial target, the electricity then jumps to the next nearest enemy doing significant, but less damage". So it is pretty usable in combat.
But maybe you think the ball ligthning - "2d6 electricity damage to 5-foot radius." that means friend or foe alike.
So both, chain lightning and "static charge" are very usable :)

A Hasted wizard & Sorcerer hacking away with Mord's swords, while the cleric, barbarian, druid and rogue just fight him in Hand to Hand.

I got through the last three chapters on chain lightning alone! :)

Don't know how I would've won a lot of the battles without it.

Is chain lightning really that good?
I'm at the end of chp. 5 in current game, and havnt used it yet, i have a pure wiz and a pure sorcerer, they are very fond of casting invisibilty and fireball, but i guess that whon't do it against Xvim

Conserning meatshields i have found animate dead priceless, its even one of my domain spells(the only one i ever use)

But does anybody know what chain lightnings secondery damage is, and third and so on...

Damage halves for second target and all targets in area of effect. Will affect one target per caster level.

The spell deals 1d6 damage per caster level to the initial target and half to every other, up to 20d6 initial damage and 10d6 secondary damage. A very safe, damaging and useful sixth level spell. With the feat Scion of Storms, damage increases to 24d6 and 12d6...basically making it only slightly less effective than the 8th level spell Horrid Wilting and still safe to use in any quarters.
