C++ runtime errors driving me up the wall

Post by tpth »

I have BG2 and ToB installed. It has recently taken to crashing about 5 seconds after I load a savegame, giving me a "C++ runtime error - Abnormal program termination", with no more information as to what's causing it. I have various mods installed, but they worked OK - this error started occurring about a week ago, and has been happening more and more frequently since. Has anyone encountered something similar, and/or can anyone shed any light on how to fix it?

Cheers

It sounds like a corrupted savegame file. All saved games, or just one?

Hmm hadn't thought of that. It's happened with several savegames though - but every time in the same situation (the copper coronet with the guards there, the druid grove at the bit with the Myconids, and at the Irenicus fight in Suldenesselar). I'll try reloading from an earlier game and going back to the same places.

It could be an incompatibility issue with your system (like some weird C++ runtimes installed conflicting with BG2).

I've run BG2 on 7 computers in the past, different OSes and all, but I've never had your problem.

The conflict can be due to a variety of things :( A fresh install on a freshly restored system is the only way to be really sure...

Have you installed something funky in the week before problems started occuring? Have you checked thoroughly for viruses/trojans? Sorry, banal questions, but you never know...
