Multiple soul trap

Have any of you guys experienced soul trapping one monster three times?

During my hunt for golden saints and ascended sleepers, I always carry two rings of soultrap and umbra sword. Once on a fight with an ascended sleeper my Umbra sword got broken and don't have an extra weapon with me. So I fought the ugly beast bare fisted. Of course it took a long time before I managed to put it down. During the fight, I was regularly casting soultrap using the rings and the sword. After the creature died, three text boxes appeared on the bottom of the screen telling me that I have successfully captured a soul. When I looked in my inventory, I found 3 grand soul gems with the soul of the creature.

After fixing my sword, I went back to the wilderness. I encountered a cliff racer and cast soultrap on it using my rings and the sword again. When the creature died the three text boxes appeared again, and I found that I have now 3 petty gems with a soul of a cliff racer on each.

This happened with the latest patch installed on my pc.

well known bug...but its random, so they never really bothered fixing it...

Same happened to me, when using "Arrow of Souls" from Marksman-mod. Shot Golden Saint thrice and got three Grand Soulgems full.

Do you only have 1 soul gem that turns into 3 or do you need 3 soul gems?

You need 3 (or whatever number you manage to cast) gems. Sorry.
