need help with dueling info
i picked the kensai and he just reached lvl 9, so everyone on the boards says to duel him to a mage.
Once i do this can he still wield weapons like a katana or is he only going to be able to use weapons like daggers and staffs?
Thanks for the help

I believe you're asking about dual classing. I may be wrong but I think he has to be human to dual class. If your character is human, then once you dual class him he will stop leveling as a kensai and start leveling in whatever class you choose. Your character will keep all lv 9 kensai abilities forever in addition to his new abilities in a different class. It's kinda like your character decided to stop training as a fighter and take up the arts of magic. So after you dual class, you're character will only level in the new class you choose for him.
A BG2 NPC example of this is Anomen. He's a dual classed fighter/cleric.

Don't succumb to the peer pressure! Keep him a straight kensai. It is far more challenging and fun. I guess it is a role-playing question. Have you developed a personality behind your character and would he dual to a mage? Dualling to a kensai-mage (or berserker-mage, etc.) is powerful, but you need to ask yourself why. What's wrong with a straight kensai? Why would your character change?
If you do dual class, you will eventually be able to use your current proficiencies in katana and wield them as you do now.
Just because everybody's doing it doesn't mean you have to. Just say no!

You lose all of the abilites of a kensai till you get to level 10 mage ,then you can use a sword.

Weasel is kind o'right: when dual-classing you DO NOT LOSE all your former abilities and profiencies but indeed they're inactive/disabled/... however. You can't use them at all (no bug!) till your mage reaches level 10 (which will take a LONG time, baby). Have fun being a mage level 1 with ONE lousy spell and ONE profiency in staff or dagger...hehehe
If your kensai won't wear any armor you will be just fine and because kensai's can't use armor well that won't be a problem at all.
PS: One thing I don't like about kenai\mages is that you can't wear bracers. Big disadvantage. bracers ac 3 are very good. Unless you get the apprenti robe. Never gotten that by the way.

Yes you are right to a point .But i said TILL you get to level 10 mage. They might as well be gone because TILL you get to that level they are gone.
