Rock'n'Roll

Sorry, I know I'm not allowed to make many noises here, but it's this THING y'know. Makes me feel sort of revolutionary. It ain't all that hard, feeling revolutionary. It's just four to the floor, a twee tube amp, and a whole lot of righteous noise.

yup, Jet are marvellous. simple, straightforward and utterly, utterly blinding. funktastic, even.
Here where the flattering and mendacious swarm
Of lying epitaths their secrets keep,
At last incapable of further harm
The lewd forefathers of the village sleep.

I picked up a song the other day... the band is 3rd generation of this whole new rock revival thing... I liked the song "Holy Roller Novacaine" and its by the Kings of Leon.

Anyone get into Black Rebel Motorcycle club... I picked up the cd but never dove into it.

Alternatively, you could listen to the Rolling Stones. Very similar, no? :p I like Jet, I do, but they're one of those bands whose every song sounds like they're ripping off someone... They just chose good people to rip off. Except the ballads that sound like a boyband.

BRMC also have some good songs. I recommend Whatever Happened To My Rock'n'Roll (Punk Song). Kings of Leon - also good. Is the rock revival thing still new over the Pond then?

Nope. It's been argued that it actually started here in Scandinavia, with bands like the Hellacopters, Gluecifer and Turbonegro. I just had a few brews last night and I was bopping to that album. Ripping off old bands is perfectly okay as long as you rip off the good stuff. Jet's target audience has probably never even heard a song by The Who, Stones or Bon Scott era AC/DC, so it's an education. ;)

Jet... loved the band when I first heard thier music. Unfortunately, radio stations (at the behest of music companies I am sure) feel the need to play popular music to death. I actually get physically sick when I hear that song from Jet now (which is sad, I really liked it at first). It's not only the Top 40 types of stations either, even the "alternative" stations overplay music. Man, I sure do wish we had a college radio station around here. Oh, well... I can always dream of the day when a pirate station gets developed.

@Luis - Millencolin is great stuff. I have two discs of thiers and cannot wait until I get the chance to pick up more of thier stuff. Have you heard any "Face to Face" yet? Another good band, different sound though.

Has anyone heard Franz Ferdinand yet? I really dig thier stuff so far...

As for music on whole, I would have to say skater punk is my favorite right now, but nothing can beat Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart (in that order).

Were still getting an influx of new stuff. Bands like White stripes and jet and the strokes... not really new but this whole "Long hair lets pretend its the seventies and bowie is the ****" is wierd. I work for a school district and half the kids in Highschool look like a freakin scene from That 70's Show.

Well, it could have been worse. It could be an 80s revival and all the kids in your school would look like Jeremiah Jackson.

Oh, when I said over the pond I was referring to Thug's comments from the US of A. I know the garage scene is pretty strong in Scandinavia... The Hives, Soundtrack of your Lives, etc.

This is true. Another band that does it quite well is the Dandy Warhols. I just hope the kids who are listening to Jet and liking it are inspired to go back and listen to the classics. :D

It's curious how bands like the White Stripes, the Strokes etc all seem to come over and make a name for themselves in the UK before they become particularly well known in the US. They're kind of the old guard now, newer bands following in their footsteps.

@Gord Franz Ferdinand are one of the best new bands around. I saw them live a few months ago, they were billed last on a four-band bill, but they were the best thing on and totally rocked. Take Me Out has been getting ridiculous amounts of airplay for ages, but it still hasn't progressed to the point where it's annoying. Jet are getting a bit overexposed, I know what you mean... Are You Gonna Be My Girl was on a mobile phone ad, it got a bit annoying.

Yep. Playing songs that allow record companies to make the most money is what commercial radio is all about. I, too, get sick of hearing the same songs over and over when there's a lot of interesting music that gets hardly any air time. That's a good reason to listen to alternative stations, college stations, and public radio.

Yeah, sometimes they sound like Oasis (or is it The Beatles? lol!) sometimes they sound like Aerosmith...sometimes like The Stones. I know what you mean, but it isn't a bad album for the car :)

What kind of rock do they play?
