Monk Armor Class

Post by NTWAYNE »

My character is a Monk, and I like playing with him. But, is there any way to get his armor class up? He's immune to most magic, but I think when I move him into TOB he's gonna get beat up pretty badly with only AC-1. And he's a Level 20 Monk.

hmmm, it shouldn't be that low ( high ), my level 30 monk has an AC of -12. Try using amulets, Ioun stones, and cloaks to lower that AC.

I agree with Agnocar, you should have way lower an AC. You should have at least -6, properly equiped. Look into getting rings that give you bonuses to AC too.

Right now, I have Kanganx's ring, ring of earth control, amulet of power, monk iou stone, cloak of the sewers, to total to -12 for a 28th level monk.

What I meant was the pale green ioun stone...doesn't give you a bonus to AC but does give one for THACO. Find the lavender ioun stone and that will give you a bonus to your AC. Both can be found in ToB.

Ohh.ooh. In SoB or ToB? And Where? BTW, how strong are Monks in comparison to some of the other character types -- especially the "Supercharacters." I actually play more for the story and comments but it would be nice to have a character (I'm a novice,of course) that didn't get terminated so often. ("The bigger they are, the harder they hit!")

actually, monks are a "supercharacter" you you have the min atributes to it

if your monk have these atributes he will be a super character you can be certain, just make sure you have these itens:
gauntlets of crushing
girdle of frost giant strenght
pale rose green ioun stone
ring of gaxx
ring of protection +2
(or one of the elemental rings)
scarlet ninja-to(kill trolls mostly)
firetooth +3(kill at distance)
amulet of power
cloak of mirroring or cloak of the sewers
boots of avoidance(no missiles can hit you)

and you have a megasupercharacter!

you'll find the bracers in ToB....pretty late in fact but nevertheless useful. As far as supercharacters go, I agree with Ripper. If you are interested in story though, I haven't had much luck with a monk. I solo as much as I can when i play the monk.

LOL! Honest, I really wouldn't have guessed. I chose the monk because -, well, I thought it would be fun (and hard) to play as "Kung Fu" and not wear any armor. I guess we are all novices at first.

Monks are a bit mushy in the early stages of the game, before level 15 or so. Later they become pretty easy characters to play. Just run up and bash.

Spellcasters are also pretty powerful, but require much more thinking, preparation and button clicking.

The high level Monk is kinda easy. Put Boots of Speed on him and yep -- dash up and clobber spellcasters and archers. "BAMM"
