If the rest of your party is high-level i would't bother to make a new lvl 1 druid, try to get Kella (lvl 9 Druid) to join you if you can. She hiding at lvl 4 of the temple disguised as a Hill Giant. Shes far better than Meleny.
All Druids are very powerful in TOEE, they are proficient in Longspear (it has reach) so they can fight from a distance. If you want an offensive healer the have better offensive spells than the Cleric, and the attack just as good as a Cleric.
Druids (especially elven ones) can make almost ANY magical item for you if you take the Craft feats for them, both weapons and items. And if you add Scribe scroll, you'll never run out of healing.
The Animal Companion is VERY powerful when the Druid is high-level, and it doesn't matter if it dies, you can just summon a new after resting. While Clerics can 'convert' spells into cures, a Druid can 'convert' spell into Animal Summonings, and they make lot's of fights FAR easier.
If you want to make a Druid i suggest either Human (for extra feat) Elven (for Long bows & swords) or Half-Orc (for combat strength)
A lvl 10 druid can change into a Polar Bear, have a Polar Bear as Companion, and cast 2-3 5th lvl Monster spell that also give polar bears. thats 5 Polar Bears with 27 Strength and 3 attacks. After spell Animal Growth is cast they have dmg res. 10/magic and is truly awesome in combat.
Try a druid in your next game, self-made. You won't regret it !!
Have Fun
