Yes! It's Eurovision time, again!

Post by fable »

No matter how bad it gets in the US--Shrub, Rumsfeld, Nader, Kerry--at least, there comes a time when I can look over at Europe and say to myself, "Thanks the gods I'm not over there, now!" I refer, of course, to that marvelous example of innane and mediocre talent, Eurovision. Each year, a different European nation plays host to this contest. And it's well worth seeing, if only to avoid the news over here.

This year, I understand that the favored group are a bunch of Ukrainian, leather-clad hobbits. How very classy. :)

hum...I'm here in Europe but I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe I'm not watching enough TV? ( actually...I don't watch TV at all... :o - alright, alright, a good movie and a decent documentary from time to time...)

But look at where you are posting this Fable, I have little doubt the various inhabitants of SYM may identify with leather-clad hobbits... Or even more worrying... lust after them....

Didn't even know there were Eurovision because I've avoided most medias/news lately because of the INCREDIBLE amount of hype surrounding the wedding in Denmark last friday. The nation almost stood still

Not that I mind, because I aren't really interested in the Eurovision :)
Don't even know who won, are running etc. Didn't even know that Denmark had a song entered :D

LOL. As of yet, that has to be the best description given. Almost as good as buttermilk waffles.

Who won?

Denmark sucked on so many different levels, they didn't even get through the semifinals.

I only watched de results. The show sucks so hard. All those people with little talent, we dont want to know anything about, singing pathetic songs . Every year I wonder when they stop this kind of ****.

I enjoyed it extremely much. I find the fact that Denmark is a monarchy, unique and interesting.

I've never seen so much TV as I have in the last week! There's been nothing but Royal TV, and I kinda like it. That's what I found out this last week anyway...

Most of the nation stood still on friday - personally, I just saw my tax money flying out into the air, and didn't see much of it. Hard to miss when ones enteir family watches and you have to be with the family because we were celebrating my nephews 3rd birthday.

But it is such a crock imo.

Would much rather watch Eurovision just to illustrate how much I didn't care about this wedding :D

While I personally found it to be a waste of airwaves, most Danes feel profoundly proud of their Danishness, and the money spent provides good value for the entertainment provided.

Bah, Eurobashing is everywhere these days. Shame on you fable, you should know better.

The contest displays a good range of talanted and original musicians, giving good entertainment as well as thoughtfull lyrics.

The musical culture in europe have existed for quite a long time, and we are very proud of it. We may have our bad eggs but we do mostly good things. There are also bad musicans in every part of the world, its unavoidable.

The Eurovision Song Contest has been a scurge to my ears for as long as I've lived. The quality of the songwriting is abyssmal, the performances ridiculous and the results completely irrelevant. Only one contest winner has ever ammounted to anything afterwards, and that was Abba, simply because they were so many leagues above the rest they probably shouldn't have been there in the first place. ESC (oh, the pun!) is Pop Idol for adults, people who buy their music in gas stations. 50 percent is fiendishly crapola tear-jerkers catervauled by grotesque, third-rate Celine Dion wannabees in dresses taken out of D&D - The Movie. The other half is Euro Dance bollocks performed by Aqua rejects with a vocal capacity that makes Britney Spears sound like Janis Joplin.

The incredible thing about ESC is that it's such a travesty it's not possible to bash it enough.

With all of Europe hating the US, do you think I'm going to miss such a wonderful chance to even the score just a bit? Hell, Abba is the musical equivalent of Dubya. :D

Just think, next year Ukraine will host Eurovision... UKRAINE!!
They don't even have running water there, how the hell are they going to host this?

Eurovision sucks anyway.
Sinds when is Rusa part of Europe? Next thing you know, America will join too, tss.

It's not even about the songs anymore, all the eastern countries all vote for each other so they'll always win now.

I guess you're right, take all the shots you want. After all I'll bet you must be quite desperate over there by now. :D

But remember to stay clear of any other dark spots we may have. Once is fine, twice is only acceptable if you are European. ;)

@Rob-hin: I think you underestimate the capabilities of Ukraine somewhat. They certainly are a poor nation by western europe standards, but they are not living in the 13th century.

As for Russia I thought they have always been considered part of eastern europe.
