multi-player characters

Post by olancho drake »

I made 3 characters to try a multi-player game and have recently noticed that my thief and mage do everything in melee. No matter if its casting magic missile, using a sling, or bow, everything ends up being melee (i.e. they walk up to the target and then do action). This makes for alot of redos since they don't belong in melee. I also noted that there THAC0 has jumped up to 26 and 28! What's up with that! Any help with this would be great! Thanks!

Its probably just a matter of resetting the AI scripts for those characters. When you make a custom character you want to choose an appropriate default script for how he will behave in combat. Go to the Character Record screen for that character and select "customize" then "scripts" and choose the one that best fits the characters class. Or you can turn the AI "lantern" in the lower right hand corner to off (unlit). Its often important not to let AI run things for your chars in combat - especially clerics when you're trying to Turn Undead and the AI script is telling them to attack which defeats the whole exercise.

Make sure your characters have not been blinded. It greatly reduces your visibility range, hence you have to get close to do anything to your enemy.

There was a recent thread on blindness; use heal/restoration to get rid of it.

Also, in Game Options, enable group infravision; it may help alleviate the problem (if one character can see/is not blinded, all characters can see).

Blindness healed - THAC0 still issue

Thanks for the blindness help! My 2 characters are standing their ground and casting spells/shooting arrows at a distance.

Now I need to solve the THAC0 issue. After casting heal and lesser restoration the THAC0s didn't improve. They remain at 26 and 28!! Not sure what I ran into. Didn't have this problem as a single player. Is this an error when playing multi-player w/some characters made and others NPCs?

Again - any help with this issue would be awsome. If no ideas, perhaps giving me the link to the makers of the game to send them an e-mail on the problem would be great too.
