How the heck am I supposed to beat Iuz??

Post by Seyal »

That battle is bad enough, Hedrick and his stinking 25 AC and all those creatures.

But then Iuz shows up, and I can't damage him (damage resist 25? Oh please..) can't magic him (spell resistance) and he hits like 4 times for 16 HP each time.

Then Cuthbert showed up and just stood there, by then, just my mage was left - I reloaded.

How in the world I'm supposed to beat a guy with 25 damage resistance and 25 Spell Resistance?

HI Seyal.

You really aren't supposed to beat him. You are supposed to stay alive until he leaves, usually 4-5 rounds later.

When Cuthbert enters the stage there's supposed to be dialouge between the two, Iuz heals the baddies and Cuthbert heals the good guys, you. Then they both leave and the fight continues.

There have been numerous reports on BUGS in this fight. The dialouge not trigging, Cuthbert not showing, Cuthbert attacking you (THEN you have a real problem), and one or both of them failing to heal creatures.

If you drop Hedrack really fast he won't come, he answers Hedrack 'call for help' and wont come at all if Hedrack is dead in the first two rounds.

But he can be beaten. You should take out as many of the other enemies you can first, or they'll complicate matters for you. Most people use the powerswords Fragarach & Scather to fight him, then it's rather easy. Have your Cleric near the Fighter for continous healing. But the easiest way is to have a Cleric/Druid/Wizard run next to him and cast 'Meld Into Stone'. He will hack away at the 'Stoned' PC which is completely immune to all damage. The rest of the group can then hack him down from behind or from a distance. Of course you'll need powerful weapons to overcome his dmg reduction, but Holy weapons bypass his resistances.

The best weapons are the self made ones, but if you dont have a crafter hang on to any Holy weapon you find. And also hang on to Frostbrand +3 and the Flaming Longsword +1.

Hope this helps you. Good luck and happy hunting. :) :) :)

Thanks for the tips, I actually got past this fight (not by beating Iuz, but this time Cuthbert DID talk to him and healed my party completely (is it just me or is Hedrick far easier to hit after this?)

Now I'm stuck in the Fire Node. I can't beat that HUGE demon, Balor. I thought Iuz was bad... this guy would beat Iuz.

Of course it doesn't help that I don't have those superswords (anyway I can edit them into my characters' inventory?) or the Frostbrand you mentioned (never seen it). I do have Darley (but of course she can't hit Balor *sigh*). I do have a couple crafters and am level 10 so I'll experiment with that.

I guess I could take the gate to the Earth node and try my luck with that boss.

If you have a cleric with craft magic arms and armor have him add the holy power to all your weapons, that bypasses his damage reduction.

I would definatly save the fire node for last as it is the toughest.

And if memory serves, you get the frost brand in the same place that you get the flame tongue. you find them both in the fire temple where you can fight the priest with all those salamanders.
the flame tongue is on the priest and i believe the frost brand is in his chest.

Ahhh, the Fire Temple. I'll have to make a note to check that out.

Yeah, after getting beat down four more times...badly, by Balor, I'm going to take Darley and run for either the earth or air nodes. The walkthrough says the air node is the easiest, so I'll try that one probably.

I need to get out of here. Just found out that my crafter can't craft weapons in the node. *sigh* I'm definitely going to be doing some weapon making, especially for Darley (4 attacks! Yikes) and my twin-longsword wielding fighter.

.

tested my melee PC-builds alone in the Luz / Hedrack battle...- (the rest of the party stays out of the fight)

result:

...the "assassin" kills Luz in 2 (max. 3) rounds, Hedrack in 2 rounds - all other enemies in the battle are killed in one round (if he don't have to run to them)

...the "kensai" needs much longer without scather and frag against Luz in this battle - but she was only hit by natural 20ies (and only hits Luz this way) - and saves against all spells...

...all other enemies died through her whirlwind attacks before Luzs appearence (it was hard to keep Hedrack alive for that long!)

I ran into a problem with this myself.

I was in that area and I was kicking everyones butts then Iuz shows up I am like great really great. So we try to kick his arse and nothing, he kept coming and coming. Anyways Saint C dude shows up and I like great another god to deal with. I knew the dude was on are side when I went to go hit him and the circle of attack range was green.

Case in point the dilogue messed up. Skipped over a bunch of stuff that made the batttle utterly pointless. So I had to start again. **sighsd** What can you do?!? So I kicked there butts again and finally it worked out the way it suppose to be **utters stupid Atari**

Bugs in this section would be a mild flavor of salsa. That place is invested with bugs!

Sides I dunno how the bleming heck yer suppose to drop H'boy with out get a few near death licks in yourself. No matter how low the dude is he calls Iuz and my wizard uses everything on that H'boy to get him to drop.....Won't do. I guess he wanted to call his maker hoping to get a few extra points in before he is sent into the after life...b**t**d h'boy *whistles and walks off**

Are your builds posted here, SilverDragon? I'd like to see these. Anything that can kick that much tail in THAT battle is a build I need to see for sure! Especially on a 10th level character!

Darley comes with the usefull spells Stoneskin and Magic Missile, along with some other junk. Use her Heighten Spell feat to fill up all slots with these spells (so, 8 Stoneskins and a lot of Magic Missiles). Stoneskin keeps the fighters alive, while Magic Missiles deal around 10 damage each round, even with the Balor's spell resistance.

Craft yourself some +3 Weapons which deal Sonic (?) or Cold damage if possible, utilize Power Attack to overcome the Balors damage resistance, buff up and summon like crazy (Bless, Prayer, Haste, Stoneskins, cleric buffs, summons, spiritual weapons...), pray his Fear spell doesn't scare off too many party members, and you should end up winning.

Sorry for ressurecting this old thread, but I''m really wondering how you're doing this.
With your assassin build I get about 20-30 damage with sneak damage against Iuz (he seems to have quite some damage reduction. That's a max of 150 in one round with haste and that's not enough to get Iuz down before Cuthbert appears.
I'm wondering how many HP Iuz has.
