Windows "Blue Screen Of Death"

Post by LightSideMaster »

I had a problem with a game and naturally decided to end it's life through the Task Manager, however several minutes later and being the impatient sod I am, I turned of my computer by its power button. Upon turning it back on i got a blue screen :( saying "registry error" and some other stuff I can't remember. Turning off my computer again, up came a screen with option of Safe mode etc. As I didn't think to much had gone wrong I tried "Last known good configuration" which just lead me back to the blue screen with(once again) "registry error". Now getting a bit worried I tried safe mode and to my growing horror the same "registry error" blue screen, so now I tried safe mode with command promt and once again the registry error screen. Now verging on panic I tried to repair windows using the reinstall disc...........to no avail, now really panicing I tried to completely reinstall Windows and once again to no avail, same blue "registry error" screen. So does anybody know what I should do?

The computer itself is only several months old and it's specifications if at all helpfull are as follows-

Dell 8300
P4 3 GB
Windows XP Pro(service pack 1a)
512 RAM
120 gb hd
128 mb geforce4 fx

I could call the manufactuers but hopefully somebody on this forum could help and my warranty is return to base so i really don't want to have to wait for weeks to get it back.
When Evil beckons what will you do?

Will you run and hide?

Or will you answer the call and revel in it's power. It will set you free, to do what you want....when you want. It will unleash you, let you become anything you desire and gain power over those weaker than you.

But will you care about their plight, their screams and cries for mercy? No, for doing so would would make you as weak as them and there are always others willing to take your place from you...

When you did the complete OS re-install, did you install to a new folder or over the top of the existing install? If the fault occured after a new install to a new folder then it's definitely hardware, otherwise it sounds to me like your registry hive is very very dead.

Try taking a look at this page:

and see if it tells you something usefull.

Otherwise - what is the precise error message you get?

The screen itself says that windows will not load to protect my computer or something like that then it says STOP Registry Error.
It follows with- if this is the first time you've seen this screen restart computer and choose Last known good configuation and then goes on about safe mode. the screen also gives this technical info-
*** STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000003, 00000003, 0x000000000, 0xE159A000)

Then at the bottom of the screen it says it has dumped physical memory. And about reinstalling windows I think I just choose the option to completely reinstall windows but it didn't work and i can't use an ASR as the computer in question has no floppy drive.

Well by the looks of things Windows is dead so I think I'll phone up Dell and see what they have to say about it but thanks for your help anyway and I'll post the solution if it turns out to be an easy one just in case anybody else suffers the same problem.

It is not really a sollution, but formating the hard drive and re installing is usually my option. Thats why I place only windows related files on C, and all the rest on D or E...

Like, 20 GB for C, 80 GB for D and E with 40 GB.

 Windows s u c k s :(

Thats pretty much what I had to do, though I had to debug the hard drive first then format and then reinstall windows.

And yes windows does suck but there's not really another viable solution except for macs and if i went into any sort of computer shop where i am i could probably count the amount of software/games for a mac on two hands and still have fingers to spare so ill just have to deal with it :( :D

Try looking at this site - might give some info you can use, although it seems to be for Win2K it might be similar:

I thought of making a similar type of setting with only windows files on one partition. But I figured that if something bad happens to windows and the registry file which requiering a format of the windows drive, I'll still loose all information in the registry and thus have to reinstall all my software anyways :)
(unless I bothered to back that one up, but then again - that might not work either with a new install)
