The only way you'll be able to do the Carpenter's Diliema is if you finshed the converting and healing of the Leather Worker's son.
Go to the Church and at the top floor were Terjon is there is a book case filled with scrolls and potions. Go to the leather Worker right a crossed from the "Welcome Wench Inn" Talk to the Leather Worker and he will tell you he won't convert unless St. Cubert perfomrs a mircle on his sick son.
Use your Cleric and the only red potion (which is heal) that you picked up from the church's book case and use it on the young boy. The leather Worker will be surprised that his son is healed. He will tell you he will convert. Go to Terjon and talk to him. Your charrie will inform Terjon that the Leather Worker is willing to convert. You should immediatly fall in to the next converstation to were your charrie will ask the Carpenter to revert to the old faith.
I cannot remeber if you have to go talk to Jaroo or not. But just follow the converstation. Once the Carpender is reverted to the old Faith then you will be able to talk to the kid allowing him to marry Melany's sister. Once that is done then you will have to talk to the Carpenter again and ask him if he is willing to make the barn now for Filken and Percy.
He will ask you to go to the Widow's house to ask for payment from her. She agrees and these Quests are done providing you with some nice XP.
Hope this helps!

After you speak with the Carpender you do have to talk to Jarro....then go Terjon like you said. But make sure you are using the same charrie you use to start this whole quest or it usually doesnt work. Keep talking to Terjon he has to say something about allowing the carpender's apprentice to revert to the old Faith.
To clarify more...go to Terjon and do this
He'll speak to you welcoming you back to the church .....
and then u ask him more questions in there should be something about asking the carpender to revert to the old faith.
Terjon will say something like it will be a shame to lose him but he has no choice but to agree since you converted the leather worker's family to the church.
This is how this quest goes sugah, you have to keep working at it.

went in and tried again...this is what came up..
Terjon: How can i help u?
1) Tell me about St.Cuthbert & history of church.
2) Questions about performing conversions to
St.Cuthbert.
3) Available for healing.
4) Good day to you.
( picked 2 )
Terjon: I can perform conversion here in my church, providing
a willing convert who can prove worthy in the
eyes of St.Cuthbert.
1) Are there many St.Cuthbert worshippers in Hommlet?
2) Mytch has agreed that his servant can convert to
St.Cuthbert.
3) The Leatherworker has consented. He will convert
now.
4)May i ask more questions?
( picked 2 )
Terjon: That is well. It is too bad members of the old
faith cannot accept a person's freedom to
choose. Erliter is a good man who will serve us
well and Mytch shows his wisdom in letting
Erliter follow his heart.
1) Allow me a few more questions?
2) I must be going.
If you click 1) takes you back to first set of
questions.
I talked to Terjon with all players.
Says the same thing....
What did i miss....all quests done up to this one.....
Please help...

Ok, think i have found your problem....
In Homlet there are three persons you can convert FROM 'Old Fatih' TO 'St.Cutberth.
1) Mytch, the Millers Apprentice.
2) Fruella, to be able to marry her.
3) The Leatherworkers' Son
In the Carpenters Dilemma, the carpenters' son want's to marry Melenys' Sister (can't remember name) but she's Old Faith and Marrek (carp. son) is St.Cuthbert. So the trick here is converting Marrek FROM Cuthbert TO Old Faith.
That is something Jaroo can do, but he needs Terjons consent. Terjon will give his consent after you have 'helped' him steal some 'Old Faith' members. You have alredy done that, but have you talked correctly to Jaroo ? After the correct Dialouge with Jaroo (ask about conversions) you should get the correct dialouge from Terjon.
The problem here can be, if you have done all you can, that you have converted everyone BEFORE you triggered the correct dialouge with Jaroo. I normally solve the Carpenters first, then get followers for Terjon. And as a last resort i have married Fruella just to get the other couple married, but you only had female PC'S ? If so this Quest may be 'Botched' for you, since you need a male PC to marry Fruella.
But it shouldn't really matter that you have done Terjons quests in advance. After the right dialouge with Jaroo you should get a dialouge something like this with Terjon :
Terjon : "Blasphemy! This can't be don...."
You : " But i already got 'leatherworker' "and/or" Mytch to convert for you....."
Terjon : " yes, you are right ....OK...."
If you are unlucky he will ask you to get Fruella converted too beore giving his consent. If so i would either forget the quest or Start over. It's still early in the game, and you don't miss any important stuff.
The BONUS in the end here is the Holy Longsword +3, but as long as all your PC's are girls you won't get that no matter what you do. You HAVE to marry Meleny to get that, and you HAVE to have a Male PC.
If you make a new party be sure to make a male pc with decent CHA score (14 ++). There is also a quest in NULB that can only be solved fully with a male PC (Bertram's quest).
You enter Homlet form the south, visit the houses you need in the southern part before you go to Terjon. Visit Jaroo directly after talking to the Carpenter. After Jaroo visit Terjon and ask about followers converting FROM Cuthbert TO Old Faith and you should be fine.
But for now, try talking to Jaroo again.
And Good Luck & Happy Gaming, buddy

Its only a +1 sword. But still best sword you can find before the temple.
Her stats are one of the worste I've seen in the game. Not enough STR to carry much more then what she starts with. As well as not enough WIS to cast 5th level spells.
@ help please: pick 2 and then 3 - the leatherworker has to convert for this quest !
@ shadowriath: it's a *radiant* sword +1 - means it's a holy sword +1 - and this is definetly one of the best weapons you will find before entering the fire-temple on level 2 or rescuing thrommel on level 3 ! (...as long as you don't craft your own weapons what is recommended in TOEE!)
.
Agreed, but the sword IS +3. It's just misnamed as +1. Check your combat info window for damage and to hit rolls while using it and you will see.Originally posted by shadowriath

The Holy Long Sword is a plus +3???!!??? Holy Moly, I didn't know
that.
I dunno which Npc you are talking about but, I'll take a stab here.
Fruella to me doesnt suck. She isn't thee best but she is close enough.
She is a good fighter. Plus too add later on in the game she becomes highly skilled in BattleAxes. I gave her the Holy Great Axe I found in the Fire Temple Node and man can that woman kick some arse with that.
As for Melany she is another good Npc. I rarley let her fight, but, she has a lot fo spells that come in big handy down the line. In any case the Npcs I always take are Elmo, Melany and Fruella. I ignore Melany and Fruella's encummbering problems and just watch Fruella cleave everything that comes near her and watch Melany blast every enemy with all kinds of spells. Sides Fruella is hilarious if you speak to her in dungeons as with Melany.
Case in point. If you bug Fruella this is what she will say ((this is durning the Water Temple Node)
Fruella : What do You Want?
Your Charrie : I just wanted to talk to you.
Fruella: This place isnt as nice as the other temples
Your Charrie : Fruella!
Fruella : What!???!??
Yer Charrie : Never Mind
Pure entertainment for me, heh heh,

I think everyone else answered this...
Jaroo - to convert
Terjon - but you must have converted the Leather worker, millers helper and gotten married Fruella in order to convince him to let the carpenters brother convert to old faith.
After I played the game few a times as each alignment I got bored and started picking apart the game... and editing it a bit. I basically alter characters and objects trying out "what ifs". I've added items and am thinking of adding in a few npcs - which is quite a bit more complex as you need to add not just the npc but map placement and dialogs... anyway
With that in mind I always get Fruella killed off (purposely) and then take Meleny in the party, however I beefed up her stats and changed her into a half_share_money_only npc, I mean afterall what man lets his wife loot all the booty;-)
