Carras shop trouble

Post by Jess »

Right, I went into the Smugglers' cave in Amkethran and did the battle thing, but when Carras showed me his goods and said they were only available for one day, I re-loaded and went around getting some more cash, as I couldn't afford all the nice items (I always have to buy all the named ones ;) ). Now, however, after I defeat the monks, Carras just offers me the same goods as he offers before you defeat the monks, no decent items at all. Does anyone know why this might be?

If I recall correctly, the only decent thing he sells is the plate of Enkidu (immunity to back-stab).

...and the rod of reversal and gargoyle boots.

This area seems infested with bugs. Last time I was there I fought the monks and instead of offering me things to buy, Carras attacked my group while he still had a blue circle. Very strange.

Yeah, the gargoyle boots aren't bad (more protection from back-stab, with stoneskin to boot - pun intended), but you can get a rod of reversal for free from Watcher's Keep.

I've tried the boots on a mage (since a good back-stab can really mess up a spell-caster), but I've found that a simple mirror image spell works just as well (and lets you equip the mage with boots of speed to do what mages do best - run like hell until they're safe).

Actually, those are Wands of Spell Striking in Watcher's Keep.

Rod of Reversal is indeed different to the wands of spell striking; very useful as it slings ruby rays which are classed as alteration rather than abjuration. Plus the pierce magic from a wand of spell striking is pretty weak compared to the spell...for instance it gets bounced by minor spell turning.

Most of them are, but there's a rod of reversal in the fire-wizards's lab (it's hidden in a tiny trapped spot - you'll need to hit the TAB key to see it).
