True to roleplaying parties
Does anybody else feel strangely obliged to include Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira and Sarevok (in ToB) in their parties because they are siblings/old friends? I know that its extremely limiting, but not including even one of them just feels wrong...

I agree with the Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc part... but Sarevok... no way! yeah he might be the best fighter in the game... but if you already have a party of six, you dont dump someone for Sarevok, the guy who killed your "father"...

Awh, come on, be a sport! Don't be too hard on ol' Sarevok. There are at least three reasons to put him in your party. 1) A most excellent, if not the best, fighter you can have. 2) He has lots of interactions with the PC and other characters. 3) If you take him through to the end I think you'll feel some sympathy to his situation. Which is like a kind of compensation for his villainous past.
You are ment to feel sympathy for Sarevok, even when you are fighting him in the first game! He represents what your character might so easily have become (I'm assuming that your playing a good character); remember his diary and your conversations with Tamoko? You were brought up by a kindly sage who was sensible of the issues surrounding you heritage and educated you appropriately; Sarevok's (step)father garroted his mother in front of him when he was just a boy! Even if he had just been an ordinary human he was hardly going to grow up normally was he?

I feel obligated to bring along Imoen, Jahiera and Minsc just because they were with you back when you were a level 2 scrub... Sarevok on the other hand depends on what you roleplay like. I think nuetral characters would welcome him to the party but good characters would just send him away and TRULY evil characters would get the info from him and then kill him again. Don't gimme that but he's evil so why would evil kill him? EVIL CAN'T TRUST EVIL! Evil characters are always stabbing eachother in the back.

Imoen, Jaheira, and Minsc always stay with my party for the entire game (except Imoen which is gone for chapters 2 and 3). If I'm playing evil, I'll leave them in their cells to rot and just take Imoen with me because I need her thief skills. For me it just depends on my alignment which PCs I'll use.
I saved Suldanesellar from destruction, and all I got was this stupid amulet.
Still, Evil wants power, and Sarevok brings it... I'll take him along for the ride when I get there. I want all Bhaalspawn in the group that I can get my hands on.Originally posted by Meerlight:

I'll bring Jaheira, but not Minsc. The guy doesn't cut it anymore. Jaheira was useless in BG1, Minsc is useless in BG2. His Strength was his main redeeming feature, but that's easily replaced with a Girdle. And I heard enough of the Boo stuff in BG1...

Actually, yes. I had a hard time dumping Jaheira the first time I needed a slot for my "all-good" party, before that every time I played through SoA I kept her, Minsc, and Imoen through the end. But it got easier. I recently restarted my evil party and ditched Jaheira, Imoen, and Minsc right off the bat without blinking an eye.

I definitely feel obligated to keep Imoen and Jaheira at my side ... Minsc only to a certain extent, as I did not travel with him in BG1, but I do feel somewhat protective of the large fella ... plus, he's funny.
As for Sarevok, my PC felt personally responsible for keeping an eye on him after raising him, so along he came (if I, OOC, had not known you can change him, though, I'd prolly have killed him again right away). Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
