Heh. Count me in on the regular edition! But I have my reasons....Originally posted by Morlock
I can't believe people still go out and buy the regular editions en masse. The DVD releases of LoTR are one of the most shameless money grubbing techniques ever in the movies.
I think it was more a question of not being able to release a theatrical version that was four and a half hours long. People wouldn't go and see it. They certainly wouldn't want to take their kids to it. I think Peter Jackson accepted that. But why would he release the extended versions on DVD - note, not the theatrical version, plus deleted scenes as extras, like some DVDs have, but put the effort in to cut the deleted scenes into the movie properly - if that wasn't the way that he would have wanted it if not for constraints of time and such?Originally posted by Gwalchmai
The scenes and bits of story that were cut out of the theatrical release of LotR were cut by the director's choice. I would like to think that he made that choice in order to make the film better (though I suspect he also wanted to make it palatable to an audience with the attention span of the 5-year-old).
