Gaxx Shmaxx (Spoiler)

Post by Gyre »

I readily admit I've been playing BG2 s-l-o-w-l-y. I got the game for Christmas and, having savored just about every sidequest, I'm just now at the point of taking on Bodhi for the last time, and am earnestly setting about finishing up the main game before taking on TOB.

Anyway, I've tried to avoid spoilers on this stuff, but it was easy enough to see that the Twisted Rune and Kangaxx were big challenges, so I left these as the last things in Chap. 6 before going after Bodhi. The Twisted Rune lived up to its billing. It was by far the best fight in the game so far. I wound up with two dead but resurrectable party members, and toward the end Minsc was my only party member still functioning, but I got that Staff of the Magi. Very cool.

Kangaxx, on the other hand, well... I had heard all about how the demi-lich was the most powerful monster in the game. So I figured this was the time to use one of the protection from magic scrolls. So I put my fighter, dual wielding Flame Tongue (it's +4 against undead) and Crom Faeyer, next to the coffin, kept everyone else back and cast the scroll on him. The lich appeared and immediately cast time stop. My fighter stood there tapping his toe in his protective bubble while the lich cast one ineffective spell after another. As soon as time stop ended. Wham! Bam! Goodbye lich, hello demi-lich. Again time stop. Again my fighter just stands there whistling while all the spells bounce off. Again, as soon as the spell ends, boom!, goodbye demi-lich, hello Ring of Gaxx. Glad to have the ring, but it sure was something of a letdown. It's a good thing there are only two of those scrolls in the game, because they sure are overpowered.

For, what's it, 30K gold you can use your Scroll of Protection from Magic every day.

Buy Vhailor's Helm, equip the scroll and let the Simulacrum use it.

Try taking on Kangaxx without the scroll. Trust me, its pretty damn hard.

actually, if you make yourself immune to imprisonment (in a solo game) and give yourself high saves (for wail) he can't touch ya. I'm playing w/o using any protection scrolls or non-healing potions to make it more interesting.

As far as Kangaxx-I supercheesed him- I had two rings of the ram- simicurculumed for a total of 4 rings of the ram- and slammed him w/ all 4.

So, basically, a single level 10 Mage, armed with Spell Immunity - Abjuration for the Imprisonment, Improved Invisibility and a stack of Blurs for the saves against the Wail, and some Melf's Minute Meteors can solo Kangaxx. Right?

I've beaten Kangaxx ole' bwoy with two lvl 25 sorcerers (played through the game couple of times with those..) :D :D :D
have both cast time stop, then melf minute meteors and wham them all, then start casting time stop again before the first one runs out, you get about in the middle of the casting when the spell runs out and your other chars time stop kick in, repeat, repeat, repeat :D :D -cheesemaster-

Xyx- exactly- though you gotta get lucky with the meteors since if you start missing a lot- he regens faster than you can throw them.

When I first read Gyre's post I though to myself "whats this guy on about? It took me 4 hours to even hit that bloody lich"

Then I loaded up my old save file and gave a visit to old Ribald, bought the Protection from magic scroll....

after 3 extremely long loading screens I was finally there.
I selected Keldorn (at level 12) and made him use the scroll. I then walked up to the Tomb and started Kangaxx. To my surpirise, I won! EASILY! Not one H.P lost! Even when he cast stuff like Summon Genie spells I just chopped them too! OMG! LEVEL 12! OMG

All I can say is Well done Gyre! AND

PROTECTION FROM MAGIC RULES!!! :D ....
now....I only have to take on Irenicus the same way... :D :D :D
