Should I keep the Staff of Striking for my Dwarf Cleric. Or should I purchase the Holy +1 Mace from the Church?

For now, I'd stick with Lareth's Staff of Striking, since it functions as a +2 weapon for overcoming damage reduction. Until you can craft such weapons without risking losing a lot of needed experience to reach level 10, you might as well stick with it. However...

There is a weapon later in the game that functions as a +3 light mace. It is a Cleric's best friend, trust me.

You really have to choose 1 of two good things.

Staff Of Striking : Better to hit & good criticals vs All Foes

Holy Mace : More Damage overall vs Evil Foes

Besides the Holy mace is VERY expensive, so i too would go for Striking until you can craft better or get better equipment later.

But if you are loaded with gold i'd buy the Holy weapon. More damage is faster Xp, the difference to hit is only 1.

Have Fun :D

I normally sell off such weapons as I tend to build my own as I hit 9th and 10th level... may as well use the xp above 10th for something since you can't get any higher.

.

as you can upgrade both weapons yourself...

...it depends on your cleric's domains which is the better weapon !

If your cleric can craft holy weapons then the Larehh staff of striking is definetly the better choice... (cause you can craft holy, keen, +3 and whatever on it!)

...if not all holy weapons you find are the better choice !

How do you get the option to craft an holy weapon?

I understand you have to have both Craft Wonderous Item and Craft Arms and Armor.

I am just unclear as to what spell prefex you need in order to have this option avalaible to you.

Only clerics who have good as one of thier domains can craft holy items.

you only need craft arms and armor for crafting holy weapons...

...and a cleric with good domain...

btw. lawful domain gives you axiomatic weapons, chaos domain - chaotic, evil domain - unholy (but the last 2 are more or less useless)

You need the cleric spell Holy Smite to create a Holy weapon.

Which is only available as a 4th-level Good domain spell in this game. Since it takes a 4th-level domain spell spot, that means that it's accessible by a cleric with the Good domain the time they reach level 7.
