The Most Tedious 'Chore'

Post by dragon wench »

Okay kids, so as you progress through the world of Morrowind and live your life adventuring and otherwise evading real life necessities, which task in the game do you find the most tedious?

For me it is the sorting of alchemy ingredients into their appropriate containers every time I return to my base following a mission.

Im with Wench on this one, it takes me at least 6 game hours to properly sort them in my house.. I have like a dozen crates, half a dozen Urns, ungodly amounts of sacks.. I swear to god I have like at least a million units of Saltrice.. Of course after im done sorting the Misc. I get to sort the weapons, the armor, the soulgems, the keys, the papers, the books..
What a wonderous love it is
To bind two souls in faith,
Chained completely together
With never a false word,
Weal and woe, wish and real,
Woven each together
From first kiss to last breath
First and last whispered in love

My most tedious chore is trying to recall transportation routes to get from Point A to Point B. Just this morning I was having one of these problems.

"Alright. From Seyda Neen I can get to Ahemmusa camp by taking the Silt Strider to Vivec, a boat from Vivec to Tel Branora, another boat to Sadrith Mora, go on up to Tel Mora, and hoof it North-West..."

I wish somebody would just hurry it along with automobiles already. Or horses, at least. :D

The most tedious quest I've been given is the fighters guild's mission to Vas, but the most tedious element of Morrowind is probably having to walk early in the game when you're very slow. It hacks me off.

for me its the vivec cantons.jeeez its boring to go around once u know wheres what
Finding the world in the smallnes of the grain of sand
And holding infinities in the palm of your hand
And Heaven's realms in the seedling of this tiny flower
And eternities in the space of a single hour.

Definitely for me it's being an errand-runner for the Telvanni. "Go get me some muck - okay, now I need some kwama cuttle - okay, now I'm making this new spell, so i need some netch leather..." Oh god, it just makes me want to give myself a friggin lobotomy, it's so boring!
you know what they say about all work and no play...

Actually, I find that anything having to do with alchemical ingredients and the aquiring of them is unbelievably boring....

That's why on your second run through you just pick up the things you need on your way from Seyda Neen to Balmorra. Saves a lot of time. I also picked up the Dwemer Tube fir Edwinna earlier.

There's an automatic alchemical sorter mod out there. It's part of a machine that you have to pay in order to sort and prepare potions. I think it may be tied to Artuzu's A Better Place to Stay, but I'm not sure--I've not tried it out. You can find it, and information about it, here. I'm not interested in Artuzu's home mod, since it's a huge warehouse, but the alchemical mod sounds like fun. Still...to be truthful, I prefer making my own potions, even if I dislike putting away ingredients. And that's no way I'm going to pay any machine to do either. ;)

I think I've seen that sorter mod, and I've been tempted, but I'm not interested in Artuzu's either.

Aaargh! The dilemna of it, I really enjoy potion making and coming up with different recipe concoctions, not to mention that the homemade varieties are usually better, but sorting the ingredients reminds me vaguely of preparing taxes in RL...

I generally just mix the potions either straight out of my inventory, or pick up a pile of them from the floor and mix them that way. In my base area I'll have a pile of 6 of this, and 4 of that, and I'll take whatever I need into my inventory and pick it up before making the potion - I don't bother sorting them really, is it actually necessary?

It's not necessary, but when you have a hundred piles, it gets annoying. ;) It's much easier if you can go to jars sitting in order on a shelf, A to Z, and click to get a quantity. Several housing mods over this much, at least, but that still means when you enter the house you have to put away all the herbs you've acquired.

What irritates me most about the game is I am constantly lost. Probably because I'm new. But everywhere I go, I'm lost. And to make matters worse, there are the quests that are not located in towns. Go to such and such mine southwest of this town by the river, blah, blah, blah. I have a hard enough time in the towns. I got the strategy guide for the maps, and they don't really help me. I think the maps suck. So for me, I hate traveling.

That's actually one of the attractions for me. :) I love the fact that the place is so huge and filled with incident. I can roam, get lost, and enjoy myself in the details. But that's just me.

There are some pretty good mapsites available, but obviously while you're not playing. I do think Bethesda could have done a far better job of supplying maps--some placement of objects is off from where they actually are.

I don't mind exploring and roaming around. It was great fun in BG1, even though I frequently got in over my head, which adds to the challenge and therefore, makes if more fun. If I didn't die hideously, repeatedly, that is. LOL

It's when I'm trying to find something that I get really, really irritated. Why is every quest located outside of town??? I've been looking for the egg mine for the second Fighters Guild quest for days without any success. And boy, those cliff racers are irritating. Oh well. I gained a level while wandering around completely lost, so I guess it wasn't a total waste of time.

Only works decently if you've got MW running in a window. And even then, it crashes more often than not, for me.
