Right, really getting on in SOU. However, I went into the library and was attacked immediately by the Medusa. My henchmen went charging in to thwack her, so I though, "What the heck, I've saved, let's risk it." So I ran in, sword a-swingin'. However, I barely got there, and she was dead. I looted the body, and did not speak to her poor husband, which is probably why I didn't take a hit to my alignment. What I don't understand is why she attacked me straight off, when the solution seems to have been to get the potion and then speak to her. Does she not attack anyway? Doesn't the potion simply protect you from her stare (which apparently my paladin, Deekin and my Drow friend don't need anyway)?
Secondly, I went into the Temple, and attacked all the Drow-Spider creatures. I killed every last one of the darn things, and failed to meet any priest guy. I met the Fool, who said I needed to get him the mirror shards. I've just read through the walk-through and it says I should have been poisoned and then looted the corpse for the antidote, or fought lots of people. I'm confused.....

Firstly - that is in HotU and not in SoU
Secondly.
The Meduasa is aggresive towards you when you enter.
When you then get the potion that protects against her gaze she turns neutral and you can then talk to her.
It dosen't matter much anyways as long as you get the shard
As for her not using her Gaze when people/henchmen attacks the medusa, well that is poor design in my oppinion, but maybe the battle went so fast that she didn't have time to use it?
Thirdly - the Fool is not located in the temple, but in the castle together with all the Driders.
The temple is located futher to the south, where the "poisoned" quest takes place. When standing outside at the entrance to the castle, just head south down the path and you'll get to the Temple.
I hope this clears up some of the problems, otherwise - just post back

Thanks for that. Yep, you're quite right, I wandered into the temple and got zapped :-(. I'm now working through the Wizard's tower which is casuing me no end of problems. I keep getting mushed by the Balor Lord, particularly as my Elf friend keeps summoning cows instead of buffing me up. It's very cute. I do love the cow running around. However, it's not particularly effective against the Balor. Next time, I will take every potion under the sun and hope for the best......

Sorry, should have explained, yes, the cows are due to the Wild Magic. It's such a great idea (very annoying, but great), I love seeing what effect my spells are going to cause next. Even spells on objects go wrong, I used the Chalice of old whathisname and tried to cast a pool of light. I ended up with a "cloak" of darkness around me, which stayed standing when I stepped away. It then vanished. Weird.......
