"Houston we have a problem"... In the Fire Node...

Post by gcabiat »

Ok, I have encountered two major Bugs in the Fire Node, for your information I have both patches installed.
The first bug:
I Can't use my Ranger for any sort of attack, he is the only CG character and uses the Fragarach sword from Prince Thrommel, hence doing the most damage. The problem is that when I attack with my ranger in his turn, he does attack, but his turn will not end the game stays as if waiting for the next turn of the next character, I can't do anything about it, I hit the space bar and everything and it does NOT jump to the next character turn, so I have to restart and reload the last saved game and the problem continues.... and I can not use my character that can do the most damage.

The Second Bug (the worst one!!) even though I can not use my ranger I some how managed to come up to the end of the fire node and face the level Boss, the Balor, without my Ranger it was one tough battle, one that I had to reload the game for quite a few times, and when I was about to defeat the Balor striking the last blow.... The game simply disappears!!!!!!!!!!!! I am suddenly in my Windows Desktop, and the game gone, it tuner off by it self.
I can't find an explanation for this, and let me tell you I felt quite frustrated, at first I thought it was a fluke or something so I tried again, same thing, when striking the last blow to kill the Balor the game shuts off. Third time, I restarted the PC, runned Norton Win Doctor and Disk Doctor, same thing, the game shuts off again in the last blow to Balor...
I guess I can't finish the game like this.
Has anyone encountered this problem as well? I didn't see a post on the subject.
PLEASE!!!! Help me, I want to finish this game.....

Thanks.

The Fire Node is one hellishly bugged area. Troika Games, the developer of the game, have been working madly on resolving AS MANY BUGS as possible for the game, but unfortunately, they couldn't get the nodes unbugged yet. Trust me, they're working endlessly on it. I've encountered the 'Fire Node Crash-to-Desktop' before, but trust me on this, they're working on it almost tirelessly and with all due respect to their customers.

Hi Galuf, thanks for your reply, did you get a chance to fix this "Crash to desktop" problem in anyway? If so please let me know...
Thanks....

I can't help but wonder if your save file is corrupt?

I assume you're refering to the two trokia patches. Now then I've finished the game countless times in the past with various patches (ie. both trokia patch 1 and co8 2) but have not tried to finish with trokia patch 2 yet - I kind of been milking it garbing every npc in the game and leveling them up to 10 for the heck of it. I'll hit the firenode this weekend and check it out.

The ranger problem - might be the description of scather in the protos.tab file conflicts with the new .exe file.

"Crash to the desktop" I've done alot of editing to the game before and it's been my experience that for the game to exit the way you say - after destroying an npc it was due to an object the npc should have being missing.

Hi Eflat, thanks for the reply, I've been wondering the same thing, about having a possible corrupt save file, if thats the case, any suggestions?
On the other hand, the "Crash to Desktop" problem happens when I kill The Balor (Boss of Fire Node level) not an NPC, I am wondering if it is a graphics problem, even though it shouldn't since my video card is a ATI readon 9200 128MB, but I can't just dismiss that possibility, any ideas on that?

I hope I can fix this problem soon, to be honest this game has brought bug problems since day one, and if I can't continue the game and finish it now, Think I will never do it, I just don't feel like starting over or wait 1 or 2 months for a new patch.

Thanks...

Problem solved!! I went home on my lunch break (so I didn't have linch) and tried something, hope it helps if someone encounters the same problems.

It was actually the Fragarach sword, I teleported to the pirate town (I don't remember the name) went into the house I bought, left the Fragarach sword there an went back to the fire Nod, my ranger was able to attack normaly round after round, and I was able to defeat the Balor with no problems..

Thanks anyway.......

Me, I experienced countless CTDs (Crashes To Desktop) without Fragarach.

Speaking of the sword, which alignment is your Ranger. If I'm not mistaken, Fragarach and Scather are meant to be wielded by characters of Chaotic Good alignment, and produce different malign effects in characters of different alignments than Chaotic Good.

Hi, my Ranger is CG, but I think that Fragarach is meant for CG characters, when I tried to give Fragarach to my Paladin it took 10hp right off him but nothing happened to the Ranger, so Ileft the Ranger with Fragarach and the paladin with Scather...

Thanks

What about Scather? Does that sword cause any problems for your Paladin? Does he have any lost hit points or reduced effective level (example: is 10th level, but treated as level 9)?

I havn´t had any trouble with Scather, my I I don´t think his level or hit points have been affected at all, the swors wirks quite well...

On an other subject, do you know where I can get a Fireball scroll? I can´t find one and none of my PC´s can scribe one and Burne is out of my party already....

Thanks

Hmm...

I don't beleive there are any scrolls of fireball. I remember practically every scroll I got throughout the game, and none of them were spells that powerful. :(

I believe the only Fireball scroll in the game exist in Burne's store - problem is if you ever recruit Burne his store is no longer available as when he leaves the party his store inventory is replaced with whatever he picked up as an NPC with the party.

Now then... your only option at this point is to go recruit Burne again, then have him scribe the scroll - if you have a wizard (with scribe scroll) have your wizard copy the scroll to thier scrollbook and drop Burne from the party again.

The thing is, if he already got something that Burne's really looking for (won't spoil it if gcabiat hasn't found it), then he's plum out of luck.
