So Greece managed yet another great result....

But danged thoese spainards - I had calculated on them winning nicely with 3 goals or more :D

But it did seem a bit like it was their own fault, although they still came to some nice chances after their 1-0 lead, they just started to seem unfocused, and to confident that they would pull the win home. I mean - Raul should have scored on that oppertunity he had, but head it past goal.

So kudos to the Greece, and the group is still wide open, depending on the result between Russia and Portugal :)

Maybe I should start cheering for Greece :p

I still have a good hope that things will be alright with both Italy and the Netherlands though.
Both teams need decent midfielders who can deliver the balls to the attackers. I'm confident that the coaches will see this soon enough.
And when that happens, I think both teams will really get the soccer machine rolling...

Well about The Netherlands yesterday, I think they played way to bad, they will have too change the way they play or else they will not get far in this tournament. I hope they/we win against Czechs.

Yes, surprising game. I was feeling a bit sorry for Spain for a while, but changed my mind when Raoul started showing Totti tendencies. Not nearly as bad as Totti, but I really hate when they mix football and ballet. Pulling jerseys is my second gripe, which was more common by the Greek team. Both diving and jerseypulling should be punishable with rotten eggs.

So far I've been a bit dissapointed by the amount of goals scored in the tournament so far.
But I guess it can be taken as the teams being very even, although personally - I take it more as the teams are scared of loosing

It seems as though the teams get somewhat unfocused when they get a 1-0 lead. Although they might still get to the chances - the big chances that should yeild goals, are missed more often then not.

Speaking of Totti .... UEFA is now charging him with unsportsmanlike conduct (or something, dunno the english word for it) for the spitting he did against the danish player Christian Poulsen.
UEFA usually punish such conduct severely, so is interesting to see if he gets a ban from one or more matches.

Grrr. Worst performance of Swan lake's "death of the swan" yet. That, and a referee that pretty much gave the game to Portugal. I wish they could give yellow cards after the game when they see the dives on video. That puts Portugal at the bottom of my list together with Italy. If Totti disappears, Italy might even climb a spot or two.

Yay for Portugal! 2 - 0 on Russia, though really, that red card on the Russian goalkeeper should not have been...the referee thought that the goalkeeper had put a hand on the ball outside the area when he threw his body on the ball to stop the Portuguese attacker. I think it was an honest mistake (no conspiracies here), but it did make a huge difference. Somehow I keep thinking it would have been a draw had Russia not played with 10 players.
That Cristiano Ronaldo is an amazing player, he is extremely fast on the run, dribbles like a brazilian and knows how to make good passes (that pass for the second goal was excellent). Honestly, if Scolari doesn't put him at the start of lineup for the next games, I will be disappointed. Portugal needs fast people in the attack, and only Deco and Ronaldo have shown such speed and ability.
Figo doesn't seem to play as well for Portugal as he does for Real Madrid, maybe it's because he lacks other 'talents' to play with, considering he's more of a supporter than attacker.
But yeah, the portuguese Ronaldo is quite amazing. :)
Check it out! One of my earliest, and certainly, more creative threads! :)

I don't mind the 2-0 win to Portugal (had that on my bet, combined with a nice win to Spain, which fell down due to lousy strikers :D ), and it leaves group A very very open for the last round.
Now - I'm counting on Spain and Greece going through.

Portugal dosen't seem focused nor good enough to take points from Spain.
Possible if they left Figo on the bench, but that would proberly cause an outcry in the nation.

And russians have no chance for anything and I don't think they will be able to beat the greeks that are riding on a wave of confidence at the moment.

Now looking forward to the days matches.
England vs. Switzerland and France vs. Croatia..... I think we will see the favorites pull this one home, although - if Switzerlands defensive is strong enough, they might manage a shocker against the English...but I doubt it.
And I don't think Croatias inexpereienced team can stand up against the powerfull french which loads of experience.
Also Croatia is proberly looking more forward to the match against England which is their big chance for advancing from this group.

The ballerina suspended

Uefa has decided to suspend Totti for three games.

Edit: @xan: Aw, you beat me to it! Now I'm hoping Italy plays much better without him just to rub it in.

Very effective by England against Switzerland, 3-0. They almost scored on all the major chances the had :D while Switzerland showed to be rather ineffective in the attack, after a good first 20 minutes (or so - until England scored).

But all in all - it was what could be expected.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, when Italy plays against Sweden. Should be interesting actually.

By the way, is someone else getting tired of watching all these games?
I had to skip England-Swiss and probably France-Croatia too, just to keep it fun :p
I'm looking forward to tomorrow, when Italy plays against Sweden. Should be interesting actually.
That will indeed be a very interesting game to watch... I'm fearing that the game we played against bulgaria was just a one day wonder... but I'm hoping it wasn't...
