Soloing (again)

Post by estaze »

I know it's been up a couple of times, but i've considered starting a Fighter/Cleric, once i get the TOB CD.
I also want to install the mods: TDD, Big Picture, Tortured Souls, Shadows Over Soubar, and perhaps NeJ.
It's the first time i solo through the game, so i might need some help considering if the C/F is easy enough for me, and which spells and items to search for. I know the game entirely, so i just need to know what items and spells to use.
Furthermore i don't know how to get past the traps in the game. I might use one of the weidu mods, to disarm all traps/locks. But does a weidu mod fit with those mods i mentioned before?

You could suck it up (for the most part), and reload of you fail a save against the harder traps. It's a shame that you'll miss out on the XP, though.

I wouldnt recommand soloing on your first run trough ToB, and certainly not with all those mod's installed.

IIRC TDD isnt compatible with SOS, but i could be mistaken.
You could also try a f/c/t (this is a class correct?)
Good luck, you'll need it

TDD can be combined with SOS using the Big Picture mod. However be warned that BP sometimes screws things up a little, so you get wierd conversations and sometimes game bugs, especially if you install a whole bunch of mods. I don't think there's a fighter cleric thief, though. There are FMTs and FMCs, but no FTCs... For one thing, a TC wouldn't be able to use any weapon other than quarterstaves and slings, which is a little too much of a limitation.

i prefer to solo cuz it makes your char stronger faster, and u dont need to have to worry about the other members living just your char.

F/C is cool, specially cause you have some ubber thaco lowering spells, and you'll advance fairly quicly. Not to mention the skeleton summons, and devas. Traps? Detect traps. If you must get through a trap, either use cheese to have a trap remover familiar (is there one?) or have yoshimo or jan with you only for trap disarming.

Doesn't that somewhat defeat the point of soloing? Kind of like having Edwin 'only' for casting horrid wilting... :D :)

Yeah, but why soloing if you are going to use shadow keeper only to enable traps removing or something???

I think he's thinking of using the component of EoU that gets rid of all traps and locked doors and containers. Personally I wouldn't use that myself, but each to their own...if it removes one of the big headaches of soloing...well, I thought soloing was all about the headaches; finding weird and innovative ways round things on your own that a full party could cope with.

Then he means not to solo at all... and we agree Kopywrite. Why removing traps? If you cant remove traps face them the way you can... I've soloed a Wizard slayer, and without an allmighty strength it was kinda sad when I couldnt have lots of treasures in game before reaching Crom.

The interaction with other npc's, their personalities, personal quests, the romances... IMHO the npc's have made this game the classic that it is.
Besides, why would you want to level up so much faster?

see my D&D char follows Torm so i really like keldorn who is a paladin of Torm

i like Viconia cuz she is a great cleric and you can make her be good

but they fight and leave and it sux

these are the only decent npcs imo and they leave if they are with you at the same time.

if ya level up fast ya become really powerfull

however if u do it gets kinda boring with no challenge....

so ya i guess npcs can be good

traps etc.

About the traps and locks, i might enable them again. And i have played through both SoA and ToB a lot of times before...

Is the F/M/T the easiest character to solo the game with?? or at least at the first time. Also give me some advice on, what equipment to use, and which proficiences to count on. Thanks in advance.

For traps on the ground, Detect Traps + Monster/Animal Summoning is the way to go. Just let your summons trip the traps.

For traps on doors and such, use a familiar or just suck it up.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
