Valygar or Haer'Dalis

Post by frobb »

HI

I have a party of:
PC Monk
Korgan
Jaheria
Edwin
Yoshimo

I have dropped Minsc in favour of either Valygar or Haerdalis. I am just about to do the planar sphere quest so I currently have Valygar in my party. My question is which one should I take to spellhold with me? Also, has anyone killed Valygar and tried the quest using his body?

Well in general minsc is better than Valygar or Haer'dalis but if you have to choose i would go with Valygar. I have him dual weilding celestial fury and the his family blade. But if you need an archer you can hook him up with heartseeker, and if your a spear person you can give him the spear of withering, which i think is pretty cool.

I have, and it sucks. The only thing you get as a reward from Tolgerias is the Ring of the Ram,and you would get that anyway when you kill him in the Planar Sphere.

Well, some people think he's annoying, others think he's just too week but others like me just like him for what he is a Blade(Bard) NOT a fighter or a mage or a thief but a decent combination of all three.Anywayz, his swords are cool, and he has some really kewl interactions with other party members.BTW,if you want more info on HD try to do a search of this forum.
There is no knowledge, that is not power...

Yep I use him, blades are great.
This has been discussed a lot (use search).
But blades rule!
The only thing that sucks about HD is his constitution it is only 9 so it is very low, but just give him the girdle of fortitude and it can be increased (you can find it in the unseeing eye quest).
When a blade reaches level 23, you can cast 3 level 6 spells (it can be bugged and you have only 2 but you can dowmload a fix from baldursdash).
So your blade can cast tenserstransformation and become a level 23 fighter.
When you are wielding a katana you roll automatically 1d10 dual wield this and you have two attacks a round, you can combine this with offensive spin and you have3 attacks a round and a thac0 from a level 23 fighter and a bonus of 2 to your thac0 from the offensive spin.
But you have a bad armour class, about -5 (wenn wearing ring of gaxx (-2 armourclass regeneration etc)and bladesinger chainmail, you can improve more with other equipment but this is the base for me).
Then you can improve your armour class also with defensive spin it gives a -10 to your armour class so you have about -15 AC.
Pretty good. When you are in defensive spin you can't move but this problem can be solved with the ring of free action so you can move.
Defensive spin is great for casting spells (level 23 means 6 offensive spins and 6 defensive spins).
But there is more for protection like when you reach level 23 you have 11 stoneskins and a lot of mirror images (also about 11 I tought). So you have to hit the blade 22 times against a Armour class of -15.
And there is a lot more I can't remember it all but just try it.

But I must say you can't send him blind into combat you have to watch his actions carefully, so if you don't want to, choose valygar.

I always kill the bastard and then go to the planar sphere, his body disolves and you can enter the sphere.
But in my first conversation I always pickpocket him for the ring of the ram.
When you beat him in the planar sphere you gat a second ring of the ram.

This issue has its very own thread dedicated to it. Cannot be much further than page 2 or 3 by now. The general consensus seemed to be that Valygar was better, but Minsc was funnier.
