HotU Multiplayer problem
HotU Multiplayer problem
When I start up a LAN game and run the HotU campaign, I get a bizzare error.
In the little scripted opening cut-scene (after the cinematics) one of my characters will be walking around among the drow and be stuck there. Kind of annoying and prevents me from playing the expansion on LAN...

What Warlin said is true. HotU, ulike NWN & SoU, is single-palyer only. However if you really want to play multiplayer HotU take a look at this thread.
Here's is a direct link to a multiplayer enabler (though admittedly I haven't tried this yet) http://www.a-s-i.com/~glamm/Hordes/

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm REALLY FED UP with this!!!!!!!!! How could Bioware do this to me? My daughter and I have only played NWN in MP mode. We bought it specifically to play MP. After completing NWN, we moved on to the first XP, SOU. Great - another fantastic experience. So, we bought HOU to play - you guessed it - MP. On our first attempt, we got as far as going down the well. I could get down but she could not. I used my Stones of Recall to set a portal thingy but that didn't help her to get down the well. Well, as it turns out, it wouldn't would it? So, we patched the game to try to solve this glitch and off we went again only to find my partner in crime stuck in this cut scene room with no exit. We have wasted some time trying to figue out what is wrong tonight and I have just read this thread and phoned her up to let her in on the bad news. It leaves us feeling rather negative where once we were very positive. Anybody (like Bioware) know the rationale behind this move?
Sorry for the rant. Anybody know any other good RPG MP games? We have both played Dungeon Siege in SP mode but never managed to get that going in MP although will perhaps try again. It's not my favourite game though. If no ideas are forthcoming, it's back to Civilization. We finished our current MP today and I won! Ha! Ha!

I have encountered the same problem that you guys did. While playing in MP we have reached the well, but i didn't have that teleportation stuff (my friend did) so i couldn't manage to pass through the well (my friend passed).
Now he is in front of the gates of Underdark with that teleportation stuff. And all of his items equiped. (before resting he gave me all
of his belongings so we prevent them being stolen by the drow thief.) We saved the game and quit.
So I came to this; if i open a multiplayer game from the beginning of the HotU, ( i will give all my stuff to my friend because of the same reason i explained above, we'll save his character after that) I will have that teleportation stuff that will allow me to pass through the well.
Then if i pass through the well and let my friend to join my game with his own teleportation stuff and my belongings that could handle
the problem. Am I right or wrong? Well we'll try and see.

I shall be interested to see how you get on with these devious tactics AnhkTepoT! We haven't touched the NWN XP since my rant here! Instead, we have now got the XP to Dungeon Siege going (Legends of Aranna) and are doing well with that except that the save game doesn't save the map. It appears that there are only five geographical points where you can enter the game and all the monsters etc reappear between saving and loading. Yesterday, time wouldn't allow us to quite make it to the next entrance point at Illicor so we are wondering how long it will take us to hack and slash our way back to the Bluffs from Arhok. There is one displacer to help us on our way but that's all. So, I'm off to find a thread on that aspect of that game and start another thread with: "Well, I'm REALLY FED UP with this!!!!!!!!! How could [Microsoft] do this to me! Hope you get on well AnhkTepoT. Do keep us informed.
We shall show mercy but we shall not ask for it.
YEEEEESSSSSS!!
It was a real dissapointment when i got stuck on that well.
But my calculations lead me to the Victory!
My tactics may seem devious Jan Mistique , but the most important thing is the result rather than the tactics.. And it is a definite SUCCESS!
As I explained in my previous post, before beginning the XP I gave all my stuff to my friend and we saved his character as a local one.
Then I've started a brand new MP HotU Campaign from the beginning. As I guessed the game began with a dream and when I woke up I saw the "Relic" in my backpack. That was an expected beginning. I kept on playing and reached the well. Then i pulled the rope and ta taaaaaa, with a simple "Yes" I was at the bottom of the well!
I saved the game and then loaded it. At that time my friend also joined the game and there happened the unexpected part. My friend perfectly joined the game but he had just started on a chamber of Drows that I have seen in my dream. But they were just standing still. No actions. I think that was a buggy entrance but it couldn't stop me! I was the Party leader, so I asked my friend to use his "Relic" to teleport near the party leader. And he did so.
.... We were both at the bottom of the Well.. Hurraaayy!! You have to see our faces Grinning with 32 tooth. He gave all of my stuff back to me.And I was whole again, a 9/6 Druid/Shifter..
And we ventured into the darkness of the Undermountain.. side by side..
I hope i could help you. But there is something that i couldn't understand. If HotU is a single player only game, then why does that "Relic" has the "Teleport to Leader" ability?? Could you transfer Leadership to your companions?? If you cannot and if there's a leader, aren't there has to be a MP party. And if there's a MP party how could that XP be a single player only one?? Whatever, we are playing HotU in MP mode now and we are happy people.. I hope it lasts looong long enough. To see the happy ending
Bye for now. ( Thank u for reading such a long post. )

Wow AnhkTepoT! Am I impressed or am I impressed?! For 'devious' read 'exceptionally intelligent'! As for taking the time to read your 'long' post, it was very interesting. I am going to try your method and see if it works for me and my daughter. It will be the weekend before we play because of time but I will let you know how we get on. Have you patched your game? We patched ours. In the meantime, I hope you go well down the well!
The whole XP seems rather strange because, as you say, there are many MP aspects to it not least that you can seemingly load up an MP game and get people to join it! Perhaps they intended MP and ran out of time or something. A huge miss though.
What other MP games do you play AnhkTepoT? As I said, we play Civilization and because there is nothing else at the moment, Dungeon Siege (sorry all you fans and Microsoft!). We have also played the Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale games. My favourite game of all time is Morrowind but of course, no MP on that.
Bye for now and happy dungeon crawling!

I have just looked on the back of the box for HOU and, in the system requirements, it lists the requirements for MP mode! If that doesn't imply that this game is for MP, I don't know what does especially given that both the main game and the first XP were MP! There is nothing on the box to indicate that it is any different to the previous games and everything to indicate that is it MP. Inside in the instruction manual, it does say in the Introduction on page 2 'Engage in a brand new single player adventure' but given that the box was sealed beforfe purchase, this hint was not very helpful!

Just to let you know AnhkTepoT that we got HOU to work in MP. We both hosted our own MP game and got as far as going down the well and then saved our characters and quitted. Then I loaded my MP game with me down the well and my daughter joined my game. She ported in to the game in the chamber where the drows were. She said that they were moving but just in a friendly way. Then she used the relic stone to 'join leader' and there she was - down the well with me! From our experience, I suspect that she probably didn't need to complete the first part of the game but rather just get a character in her own MP game so that she had a relic stone in her inventory. We didn't to do it that way though.
There seems to be some indication on the Bioware forum site that this method will only take you through Chapter 1 and that some download or perhaps reprogramming is needed to get further. There are pages and pages about this so I haven't read it all up. I thought we would do as much as possible and then go back to the site if we couldn't get any further on the basis that you only read the instructions if all else fails!
From reading the Bioware forums on this subject, it seems that Bioware meant HOU to be MP but they dropped that when time ran out.

You have to remember that the Hordes of the Underdark expansion brings much more to the game then simply the module you play through. That is why there are multiplayer requierments also, because the Neverwinter Nights concept was ment for multiplayer - except the module in itself apparently.
But I agree that they have messed it up making it so difficult to play in multiplayer as they seemingly have, and they should likely have made it clear.

Great! I am happy you've made it. Well, if this method can only lead us to the end of chapter one, so be it. This means we'll have to look for new methods to continue playing. But you're saying that there wrote "you need some download or perhaps reprogramming to get further." I hope we won't need them. I am working on it Keep going, move move move!

Xandax, I am a little unclear as to why this XP needs to state MP requirements when it comes after what has gone before and is not in itself MP. Still, I am glad to have got around the MP problem for now at least!
AnhkTepoT, I wish you happy adventuring too. Great to be back in business and I hope that my hasty reading of problems after Chapter One were wrong and that we will sail through with only monsters to contend with!

Well apparantly somewhere on the box it states something like: "A new 20-hour SINGLEPLAYER campaign".
Bioware says that it might consider changing the HotU campaign once it has fixed all the singleplayer problems.
It has internet requirements because many of the features will require modules to access. It is not likely for you to reach lvl. 40 in HotU and many items are not found the the singleplayer campaign.

Because if you play a multiplayer game, that is using HotU elements, you need to have HotU installed and run it. You can't play on HotU modified servers with only the original NwN.
Thus it has to have multiplayer requierments

Mine says excatly the same, except for the "single-player" part
Seems they have changed some things then
But on a more fun note, my box also says:
"characters can now achive Epic status (up to level 30)"
Seems I must have an early print.
