First off, Jan. His stories are damn great. He has excellent interaction with other characters. Him and Korgan get along fairly well too
However, he is also an incredibly utility character. He is great for finding, disarming, and setting traps. He is also great for debuff the mages. Can you say time stop trap? Breach, Ruby Ray of reversal, send in Korgan and Sarevok and a few hits and you have a gibbed mage Not to mention he can do some good damage with Firetooth, and its upgrade, since he is proficient with x-bow.
Secondly, Haer'Dalis. I think he makes this game LESS aggrevating. Once he gets to 3 million, take the Enhanced Bard song and have him sing the rest of the game. +4THAC0, +4 Damage, immune to all sorts of nasty effects, and give him - 10 AC as well. How can you afford not to have him in your party!
There you have it. A tribute to two great characters, who usually get overlooked.
Cheers

Giving Credit to two underated characters :) (TOB wise)
I understand your reason for posting this up....
I on the other hand, can't live without Jan, if I am not a theif. A great theif, and his backstabbing actually grows with time.
BTW, HD is almost always overlooked, because he is a blade not a bard. Most people see him fighting in the front line. When, in actuallity they forget what Bards do best, entertain. They are entertainers by birth. I agree whole heartedly with you.

Dragons, demons, fair maidens in distress... A daily life of a cavalier - Gecko
Two tanks, a healer, a thief, a spellslinger and... an entertainer?they forget what Bards do best, entertain.
Not exactly the line-up I had in mind.

HD also levels like a madman. Although I do not think he can set traps, so he gets stuck with a bunch of crappy alchemy skills
But immunity to fear, and stun is great. Most mages do symbol, fear, and stun most of the time. So you are not affected by that. He also gives my main (mage) Jan, and Vic that extra boost to damage thac0 and AC. He is also great for his mage spells.
3 Cheers for HD

That and the fact that they're jacks-of-all-trades, yet masters of none.most people don't see a harp strumming adventurer as very "cool".
I don't need a character that supports the others, I'd rather have one that's good at what he does. I have no need for yet another character that can summon monsters or cast True Sight, but I can always use a healer or a tank.
Aerie and Jan may not be the best Mage, Thief or Cleric in the game, but they're no way near as bad a Cleric or Thief as Haer'Dalis is a bad Mage.
