Has anyone played non-violently?
Has anyone played non-violently?
Because Morrowind is so open ended (and I get really bored once I max my first weapon skill), I was considering playing without using H2H, weapons or offensive magic. I was even considering no armor. I also want to do this to raise the challenge of the game.
Key skills:
Sneak,
Run,
Acrobatics,
Any Magic skills beside Destruction and Conjuration(enchant and alchemy could cover most)
Plenty of fun birthsigns
I'm not sure if I'd allow reflect, as it is defensive, and quite possibly the only way to defeat some key characters. If they ran out of magicka to hurt themselves with, you might have to restore THEIR magicka. You'd just have to run from atronachs.
It would force me to use fun combat tactics, like blind, burden, frog/feather, invisibility, calm.
Perhaps this could be played as a vampire or wolf that only kills when necessary. Vampire only uses the absorb health spell. (I don't have bloodmoon so I don't know how the wolfie would work).
Another fun option I had thought of was playing through with only storebought spells and no weapons.
Watcha think?

Sure, you can play through the game without killing anyone. Of course, this'll eliminate many of the quests from Guilds and Great Houses, and you won't be able to finish the main quest, and you'll get eaten alive by cliff racers and kagouti if you ever try to travel anywhere on foot.
But then again, the point of Morrowind doesn't really seem to be the main quest, since the game doesn't end at the end of the main quest. It just... keeps going. So if you're willing to live in peace and harmony with House Dagoth, sure, go for it. But I don't think it'll work very well.
Going through only using scrolls would be pretty cool, and much more feasible. I'm a big fan of swords and fireballs, myself, but you could certainly get by only using scrolls. Might be a tad expensive, though. Would you use Lord Mhas's Vengeance scrolls? (Bound battle axe + entire suit of bound armor)

Wow, that does sound like a fun challenge. You would have to put a lot of thought into class choice, skills, and what factions and guilds to join. The problem is the fact that you have to kill several key characters to win. You would need to find ways around both dagoth gares and dagoth ur for example, and those are just off the top of my head.
It would be very fun to use those (usually) fairly useless spells that you mentioned, as well as detect-spells, though!
I think I would go with
Sneak
Acrobatics
Athletics
Unarmored (An absolute must if you're just wearing clothes)
Illusion
Alchemy
Speechcraft
Alteration
Mysticism
Restoration
I don't think enchant would be too effective, since you won't be soultrapping too much (it involves killing...). In the case of killing vital characters, you might have to concede your complete pacifism, and use the creatures of conjuration as your offense. Or maybe just store-bought targeted spells...
Maybe a high elf is the best race, or even argonian or khajit. You could even make it your purpose to free as many slaves as possible, and pursue the twin lamps...
Sounds like fun! Enjoy...

On my second run-through of Morrowind (Before I had either Bloodmoon nor Tribunal) I played as a hermit with a strict vow of silence. Once out of the Tax Office I headed right off into the marsh of Seyda Neen and managed to not talk to anyone up until Dagoth Ur. It was difficult, to say the least.

how would that be possible, wouldn t you hhvae to talk to caius and divath fyr and yagrum bates and a miillion other people to even get to daguth ur? i think the idea of no fireballs is somewhat whaky, but isnt that what morrowind is about? if you want to be a pacifist in a world where everyone wants to kill you... oky doky!!! and if you conjure, one of the funnest things to do is make a bunch of different spells for summoning hte same thing and replentish your magic, and have 20 daedra of the same species fighting for you.

Could you explain that summoning spell tactic a bit more thoroughly. I had always thought that if you summon one creature, and then another, the first one dissapears. At least that always happened to me with the ancestor ghosts. Or is it that you have to summon them all at the same time, and in the same spell have restore magicka?

Yeah, Aqua-Chan, how'd you do that?
I think this sounds like fun, the "I wouldn't hurt a fly" idea. I'm thinking of starting a conjuror myself. Or maybe just get rid of all my character's cool stuff and turn her into a conjuror. It never occurred to me before to summon "minions" to do my bidding before, but I just recently slaughtered Trebonious and the much-complained-about Gedna Relvel with my Storm Atronachs, Clannfears, Hungers and Frost Atronachs, and it was very very fun. Conjuring is the best!
I'm thinking if I ever have the time again, (
) I'll make a character who specializes in conjuration, alchemy, enchanting and mysticism (my other baby). Maybe this one'll be Saruman. (Or I could even call him Sharkie, and make him summon lots of Hungers and pretend they're Orcs. Hmm.. what looks most like an orc?)
Yeah, Aqua-Chan, how'd you do that?

It's totally not worth the monetary rewards!!!

Fact of the matter is you don't have to do a dang thing of the main quest, or any quest at all. You can go straight from the Census Office right to Dagoth Ur, however the only problem in Wraithguard. Obviously, you can't complete the game without getting it and that requires either speaking with Vivec or the dwarf. You also have to know where the characters that initiate dialog on thier own are. It's tedious not getting to sell all of your posessions or travel by silt strider or boat.
I'd obtained Keening and Sunder and went to Dagoth Ur and force-attacked him only to find that I couldn't destroy the heart unless I guzzled Fortify Health potions like mad (to save myself from the weapons' nasty effects). Of course, there was no real point to his as I had spoken with Dagoth Ur and had therefore broken my vow, so I would have been better off just going to get Wraithguard anyway.

I still think this is a great idea, & definitely something I would want to try out. The temple seems like an obvious faction to join, as well as maybe the imperial cult (don't know if they want you to kill anybody ...).
My main point with this reply is to mention the levitate-trick to get rid of the whole cliff racer problem. Just create a "levitate 1 pt on target 5 feet radius" or so. There was a thread here earlier that revealed that such a spell will make targeted cliff racers fall to the ground & die after the spell wears out. Also works on netches and other flying creatures. It's a nice way to kill something without using offense, right?
