Backstab multiplier question

Post by clueless »

Hello everyone.

Do assassins really get x7 multiplier? Every time I backstab someone it feels like it's just a plain x5 backstab and I only get a message like this: "<charname> -"

Is this normal? I have only SoA installed. (and some minor fixes)

edit: forgot to mention that I am at maximum level (23 was it?) and yeah, the character screen shows multiplier: x7, though that "-" message keeps bothering me...

Well, it worked for me when I played an assassin. But then I had TOB installed plus some mods, including Rogue Rebalancing ... so it's hard to say if that had something to do with it. And an assassin should reach X7 as level 21, so you should be fine there.

I know that on every level up, I'd get the "Backstab multiplier increased by -1" of some such - I don't know if that's what you're refering to. But the multiplier still worked properly regardless, as far as I could tell.

You should get a "Backstab septuple damage" note and then a quote for how much dmg you did, it works fine for me btw, scroll around a bit in the message window and check to see if your getting that message when you do a manual backstab... i.e. walking behind someone while in shadows and attacking them

That's the problem, I'm not getting any kind of "Backstab septuple damage" message, only a blank one. For example, when I backstab someone, this is what I get:

<charname>- Attack Roll 18 + 11 = 29 : Hit
<charname>-
<charname> did 83 damage to Ogre
Ogre- Death

While it was still x5 multiplier, I got a "Backstab quintuple(?) damage" every time I succesfully backstabbed, but now it's just blank.

maybe you didnt put enough feedback on.... try the 'assination' rogue skill as that is always a backstab.

I opened Shadowkeeper to see what I could find about backstab, but I couldn't find anything. Sorry Cluesless. Does somebody else know? :(

It should be in one of the variables tabs in SK, like the same one that has the special dmgs stuff for kensei and such

I did some testing with the multipliers... made a multiplayer game with 2 thieves (one assassin and one regular), both had maximum level and the same equipment. The assassin seems to backstab a bit harder, so maybe I'm just being paranoid about this.. the missing multiplier message still bothers me, though. It works perfectly with x6 multiplier, but not with x7. I couldn't tell if the assassin backstabbed with x6 or x7 multiplier, but it was definitely a bit better than the x5 of the regular thief.

You should be getting the "Backstab septuple damage" message, I dunno why you aren't, maybe you don't have the feedback settings up or something? Again, you might want to check the tab in SK which relates to this, just to let you know, this works fine for my character, Imoen (who I tweeked to a fighter dualed Assasin) gets the correct messsage and will do much more dmg than a generic thief that I made in MP

Go into SK and manually change the backstab multiplier?

Umm.. how? :( I do have SK, but I'm not very experienced SK'er. Any help with how to change it manually would be very appreciated..
