Paladin and weapons.

I have the great sword that always hits..
This takes 2 hands with no shield.

I took weapon prof in Long Sword.
I am level 8..

I think I should create a new Paladin
Have cleaving, two weapon style and Prof in Bastard sword?

Any thoughts?

If it always hits then why do you need to be proficient with it? I would definatly take cleave though, and great cleave if you can get it.

You should take weapon prof Bastard sword. You will be able to wield the Bastard sword one handed and use a shield or second weapon.

I created a new fighter. Won't work

I created a human fighter with the following feats.

Weapon Focus "Great Sword"
Two-Weapon Fighting
Weapon Specialization "Great Sword"

I gave him the frost brand sword and fargach sword
and a shield.

He can only hold one item at a time.

He can hold 2 long swords though

Any suggestions?

Greatswords can only be wielded in 2 hands. Frostbrand is an example of a greatsword.

Bastard swords are also wielded in 2 hands but can be wielded in 1 hand if Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword. Examples of bastard swords are Fragarach and Scather (Scather was coded as a greatsword prior to the 1st official patch).

He's right--if it always hits you don't need weapon focus or weapon specialization. What you need is to maximize how many hits per round you get.

There are two paths possible: the power attack-cleave-great cleave path, or the dodge-mobility-spring attack-combat expertise-whirlwind attack path.

The first build option works fine with low-level monsters, but at the end of the game the second option will yield more attacks per round since there is no kill requirement to gain multiple hits. Be sure you have enough feat slots though--best to have a human for option 2.

I started a new fighter..

I am working my way towards the whirlwind attack.

2lv fighter 3lv barbarian (human)

I am planning on specializing in bastard sword.

I can currently hold the bastard sword and shield at the same time.

I guess it bears repeating: there is no point in wasting a feat slot on weapon specialization if you are using a sword that always hits.

If you mean Specialization, you're right, 'cause it always hits and you'll get a +2 bonus on damage, but you nedd proficiency with the weapon, wasting a feat slot, 'cause it's a requirement for the specialization...

I think what you guys are trying to say is that if you have a sword that always hits, then taking WEAPON FOCUS with that weapon is a waste.

If you want to take specialization in that weapon, to get the +2 to damage, then you need to be proficient with that weapon.

Fighters and Paladins are already proicient with bastard swords so they could take Spec. with no problem.

However if they wanted to use that bastard sword 1 handed so they could use a shield, then they would have to take Exotic weap. Profic. to do so.

...hmmm...-...btw. - wouldn't give scather or frag to a paladin (lawful & to high BAB for weapons that always hit)...

...a chaotic good fighter 6 - rogue 3 - whatever (best wizard or Barb) 1 with dual-wiedling is the best choice for these weapons...
